Join us and help deliver the exceptional, every day.
Rock Power Connections is a Mitie Company and is a leading Independent Connections Provider.
We specialise in the design and build of new and upgraded electrical infrastructure solutions for business, industry, commercial properties and EV charging. We also offer a full-range of electrical engineering services directly to Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) and Independent Distribution Network Operators (IDNOs) and their major subcontractors on sites up to 132kV.
We deliver to the highest standards for the best value and have a proven track record of safety and quality utilising our expert internal resources to provide our customers a full end to end service, including project management from concept to energisation. We are fully accredited and licenced to provide critical power supply infrastructure.
Role overview
The role of Design Manager is pivotal to controlling and developing the design phase of all projects across new connections and EV charging.
Responsibilities are essentially divided into two key workstreams:
Design Operations – management of the design process and workflow; utilising internal and external design teams to deliver project design requirements on-time, on-budget and to the appropriate quality standards
Continuous Improvement – lead the strategy and implementation of change to the Design function; ensuring that the processes, resources and output are fit to support the planned business growth from 2024 onwards
Main duties
- Overseeing the day-to-day design operations for ICP & EV project delivery, covering all key disciplines (civils, HV, LV, construction packs, temporary works etc)
- Ensuring Rock has a robust supply chain for its design requirements, developing a strategy and business case for the use of both internal resource and external contractors
- On-boarding and management internal and external design resources to deliver on-time, on-budget and to the required specifications
- Enforcing stringent, ‘industry-leading' quality standards in output/drawings at each design stage
- Ensuring service level agreements for design completion are consistently delivered by internal and external design resources
- Reporting on the performance of the design function to the Senior Leadership Team and other relevant stakeholders at regular intervals
- Maintaining disciplined document management and version control both during and after the design process
- Reducing commercial and operational risk through robust design reviews and governance
- Undertaking site and client visits where necessary to support high-profile projects
- Mitigating the likelihood of health and safety incidents via comprehensive, safety-focused, design output
- Shaping and implementing the future strategy of the design function to ensure it is fit to support forecasted business growth
- Driving continuous improvement of all business processes linked to design (directly or indirectly)
- Monitoring changes in legislation, regulation and codes of practice to ensure absolute compliance
- People management of line reports
- Building strong and effective working relationships with other internal teams and key colleagues
- Engaging with the wider Mitie-group design community to seek best practice and efficiencies
- Balance working remotely with consistent office-working for team engagement
What we are looking for
- 5 years experience of HV and LV installation, design and technical drawings
- Working experience in electrical infrastructure project delivery at HV, LV and post meter
- HV (11KV), LV and post meter electrical design experience and/or qualification
- Experience of DNO and IDNO design approval across all regions
- Experience at 33KV and above
- People management experience
- Experience of assessing, onboarding and managing subcontracted resource
