We are skilled at navigating complex regulated environments and are the powerhouse technical engineering and digital solutions offering in the UK market. We’re problem solvers with over 140 years of combined experience in engineering and infrastructure.Reporting to the Business Commercial Director, this is an important leadership role and a critical part of the BGEN leadership team, managing commercial performance across this growing area. The Commercial Director will be the Infrastructure SBU commercial conscience and ensure that targeted margin is achieved, cash is collected promptly and risks are appropriately managed. They will work closely with the business leadership team and the contract teams to identify and realise opportunities to reduce costs and maximise revenue. They will produce financial and commercial reports, work closely with client representatives and be involved in tender assessments.What will you be doing?Ensure targeted margin is achievedEnsure cash is collected promptlyIdentify and realise opportunities to reduce costs and maximise revenueProduce financial and commercial reportsCollate and scrutinise monthly cost value reconciliationsProduce and routinely update cash forecastsWork closely and establish strong relationships with SBU Directors, Operational leads and their teamsLead the annual budget process for the SBU and any re-forecasting exercisesParticipate in tender assessments including producing formal detailed reviews of proposed contractsBuild and maintain effective relationships with key client contract and commercial leadsReview and agree contractual termsProvide commercial leadership, guidance and support to the BGEN leadership team and their commercial staffYou will also:Support the contracts in producing and maintaining margin improvement plansSupport the contracts in producing and maintaining WIP reduction plansCascade the latest contractual guidanceRecommend and assist in the implementation of best practice to improve efficiency, increase margins or minimise riskWork with contract teams to ensure correct administration of contractsAssist in minimising disputes and in resolving disputes promptlyAssist in ensuring robust sub-contract processes and procedures are in placeMonitor, analyse & investigate commercial performance against tender allowances / budgets / targetsEnsure compliance with legal and corporate standardsSupport the introduction of new systems and procedures to improve performance/efficiencyRecruit, train & develop commercial staffIdentify, quantify and manage out riskDesirable Qualifications:Quantity surveying or commercial management degree or equivalentRICS Chartership or equivalentAccredited NEC ProfessionalEssential SkillsConstruction Industry experienceExtensive demonstrated experience in commercial managementExcellent verbal and written communication skills Experience of construction commercial management systems and proceduresDetailed understanding of cost value reconciliationsUnderstanding of actual cost collation and comparison to target costThorough understanding of sub-contract procurement and administrationComprehensive understanding of forms of contacts and methods of measurementAttention to detailDesirable Skills:Utility or civil engineering contracting experienceExperience of high volume, low value capital and maintenance contractsExcellent I.T. skillsUnderstanding of performance based commercial modelsExcellent negotiatorAble to establish strong client relationshipsAs a valued employee of the BGEN, you’ll be entitled to: Company car Or Allowance and Fuel Card with a range of Hybrid and Electric CarsPrivate Health Care - Family CoverMatched Pension SchemeAccess to our Employee Assistance ProgrammeSalary Finance - an online portal offering financial support via articles, videos and blogs.
