Position Overview

The Junior Laboratory Technician will support the R&D team in conducting experiments, analysing samples, and maintaining the laboratory environment. This role is ideal for a recent graduate or an individual with limited experience but a strong interest in food science and technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the laboratory is clean, organised, and stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Prepare for upcoming experiments making sure all equipment and consumables are ready
  • Collecting, receiving, labelling, and/or analysing samples or substances using the correct testing equipment, when necessary.
  • Laboratory testing in line with standard testing procedures, recording observations, and interpreting findings.
  • Recording all experimental data and test results accurately and in the specified format (written and/or electronic.)
  • Organising and storing all chemical substances, fluids, and compressed gases according to safety instructions.
  • Ensuring that safety guidelines are adhered to at all times within the laboratory.
  • Maintaining daily logs and equipment record books.
  • Cleaning, sterilising, maintaining, and calibrating laboratory equipment.
  • Ordering laboratory supplies, as needed.
  • Providing technical support, when necessary.
  • Keeping up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Bioprocess Engineering, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Food Science or a related field.
  • Working experience operating electrical and non-electrical laboratory equipment.
  • Comfortable handling potentially dangerous substances (flammable liquids, biohazards, etc.)
  • In depth knowledge of QHSE management systems, preventative measures, and laboratory best practices.
  • Ability to work autonomously and under pressure.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Analytical skills.
