Our Firefighters are at the heart of our communities and work in what can be unpredictable but most certainly an exciting and rewarding role.Our frontline is supported by a hardworking team of non-uniformed staff from accountants and ICT specialists to cooks and technicians without whom we could not function.Overview:We are looking for a Dev Ops Apprentice and the aim of this role is to contribute to the software development of Web and Desktop systems within Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS). Working closely with the DaTS Business Services Team across the entire software development lifecycle of SFRS DaTS systems and with the solution design and delivery teams.This role can be based in any of the following locations: Inverness Dundee Johnstone Cambuslang and Newbridge. There will be an assessment centre day held on the 30th of October at Headquarters Westburn Dr Cambuslang Glasgow G72 7NAResponsibilities:Learn how to review and investigate reported bugs and user issuesLearn how to patch test and maintain web and desktop applications database systems and software application environmentsLearn how to design and build large scale software systems that are reliable secure and meet user requirementsInvolvement in Investigation and remediation of reported issues bug fixing and testing planned software system maintenance and upgrades/patching technical design elements of new systems testing and preparing software for release management and software configuration and security best practicesProduce technical documentation and user guides for developed systemsAttend all training and development activities as required and complete all necessary studies and qualifications to achieve the Diploma in Digital Applications Support SCQF Level 6 progressing onto Diploma Digital Technology: Software Development SCQF level 8You will need the following skills:Essential:National 4 Maths and English or equivalentHigher computing or equivalentConfident enthusiastic self-motivated and a drive to success in DaTSProactive attitude to problem solving and shows enthusiasm for learning new skillsAbility to work in a fast paced environmentA good team player and can also add value working independentlyExcellent oral and written communication skillsUndertakes work with honesty and integrityWell organised and methodical operating with pace enthusiasm and creativityDesirable:National 5 Maths and English or equivalentA clear desire for a career in DaTSA knowledge of software development and codingDriving licence / willingness to travel across Scotland to meet the business needs of the national ServiceSalary: 22129 per annumWorking hours: Monday to Friday 9am - 5pmBenefits:A competitive salary and attractive pension schemeA range of excellent family friendly policies including those that promote a work life balanceAccess to a wide range of employee benefitsFuture prospects:90% of QA apprentices secure permanent employment after completing: this is 20% higher than the national average.Important information:This vocational apprenticeship comprehensively supports your specific job role with this particular employer.
