Job Summary: Sussex Police are looking for a Statement Taker to work with the investigation team in Crawley. There is a need to travel and visit members of the public to take statement, therefore you will need to pass a check drive so you drive fleet cars or have access to your own vehicle with business insurance (expenses will be covered).

We deal with a variety of incidents so some work maybe described as distressing or challenging. The applicant should be aware of this.

This is a Monday to Friday role with a start time after 0800hours, with flexibility to work evenings when needed.

Location:Crawley

Contract: 8-month contract - with possible extension

Work hours:37 hours a week - Office Based (there may be some flexibility to write occasional statements up from home, but will not be a hybrid role)

Salary:£13.77 per hour PAYE & £18.75 per hour Umbrella

Main duties and responsibilities

  • You will be working in a busy office, supporting investigating officers with statement taking and tasks such as seizing and collecting CCTV.
  • Upload of digital and documentary evidence to police IT and other partner agency platforms as required to facilitate review of material by investigators.

Essential

  • Candidates must have previous training and experience of writing S9 Criminal Justice Act 1967 evidential Statements for Court submission
  • Able to work, methodically and accurately, using your own initiative, whilst in a busy and pressurised environment.
  • Excellent organisational stills with the ability to prioritise your own workload so you can meet deadlines.
  • Good Communication skills so you can respond to correspondence and enquiries in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Experience of working in a team.
  • Ideally you will have a background in quality assuring documents as well as having knowledge and experience in data protection and comply with GDPR guidelines due to managing confidential information.
  • Proficient experience of working with Microsoft programmes such as Word, Outlook and
  • Excel, with a willingness to be trained on additional IT systems.
  • Able to produce clear, legible and accurate statements.
  • Be able to complete evidential statements detailing activities undertaken in relation to the production of evidence.
  • Be willing if required to attend court and account for actions undertaken to generate exhibits
  • Have personal resilience to handle difficult or distressing witnesses
