London, United Kingdom Spotlight Sports Group Full time

Spotlight Sports Group is a global media and technology company specialising in content and data within sports betting, horse racing and fantasy sports. With over 400 employees, the group operates multiple award-winning brands, including Racing Post, the world’s largest horse racing affiliate, Pickswise, myracing and Free Super Tips. We partner with leading operators across the betting industry to produce and build multilingual, best-in-class digital products and content to engage and educate customers.

As Head of Audience, you'll be at the forefront of driving digital content strategy at the Racing Post, shaping our website and app and ensuring our content reaches and engages a broad audience of racing enthusiasts and sports bettors. Leading a team of talented digital content editors, you will collaborate with teams across the newsroom to produce world-class content, present it powerfully and serve our customers with exceptional digital journalism. Your leadership will ensure our platforms are dynamic, compelling and fresh, are at the vanguard of digital publishing trends and are rigorously optimised for engagement, conversion and growth.

This role is based at our office on London's South Bank. We operate a hybrid system and the successful applicant will be expected to work in office on a minimum of two days a week.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee digital content operations across racingpost.com and the Racing Post app, ensuring content is fresh, relevant and meets the needs of our audience.
  • Lead, inspire, and mentor your team to deliver high-quality, compelling content. Champion best practices in digital storytelling, ensuring optimal presentation, impactful headlines, and skillful use of engaging multimedia such as images and video.
  • Drive standards of excellence in content curation, headlining and layout, participating in the digital editing process when necessary. Ensure all content is optimised for engagement and conversion, using data-driven insights to guide editorial decisions.
  • Collaborate with the wider editorial team to plan, commission and execute world-class digital content, particularly around high-impact events like major racing festivals and breaking news.
  • Develop and implement strategies to drive audience growth, retention and conversion across our digital platforms. Use data and analytics to assess content performance and refine strategies for maximum impact.
  • Foster cross-team collaboration, working closely with social, SEO, video and marketing teams to align content and engagement plans.
  • Collaborate with product and technology teams to continuously improve and evolve our digital platforms, ensuring they offer the best possible user experience and functionality for our customers.
  • Use analytics and customer insights to identify digital opportunities, drive performance improvements and report regularly to stakeholders. Proactively adapt strategies based on audience behaviours and emerging trends.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends and innovations in digital publishing and audience engagement. Identify and apply new technologies and techniques to enhance Racing Post's content strategy and maintain its leadership in racing and sports journalism.
  • Act as duty editor on occasion, overseeing the daily content operations for all digital and print Racing Post platforms.
Who We're Looking For:
  • Experience working in a fast-paced digital publishing environment.
  • Experience managing and leading high-performance teams.
  • Experience of developing and delivering content strategies and associated initiatives.
  • Good knowledge of SEO, social media and analytics.
  • Strong awareness of the digital publishing landscape, emerging trends and audience behaviour.
  • Good knowledge of racing and sports betting.
  • Excellent standards of accuracy and attention to detail.

We offer a range of well-being initiatives, including private medical insurance, excellent parental leave, a working globally policy, mental health support, assistance programs, and social gatherings. We also provide a pension scheme and various other benefit schemes. Plus, we all get our birthdays off work and enjoy 25 days of holiday per year.

We’ve also got you covered with life assurance and exclusive perks like the Star card and our Step Further Awards (our employee recognition program) to recognise your dedication. For those working via the hybrid model (in the office and at home) we’ve made commuting easier with our Season Ticket Loan and Cycle to Work Scheme.

You can also take advantage of complimentary access to our Racing Post Members Club, complete with an Ultimate Membership. We believe in making a positive impact beyond the workplace, and you'll have the chance to volunteer two days per year with our charity partner, Autism in Racing.
