About us  

The Chelsea Psychology Clinic (TCPC) is a highly regarded mental health and wellbeing clinic that comprises a group of private psychiatrists, psychologists and other healthcare professionals. The clinic offers a space for independent, private practitioners to work together in an integrative way to provide a range of high-quality, client-focused clinical services. These services can include weekly therapy as well as educational and neurodevelopmental assessments. 

 

TCPC was founded in 2016 by Dr Tom Pennybacker (Medical Director) and Dr Elena Touroni (Clinical Director) with four other associates based in one therapy room near Sloane Square, Chelsea. Since then, the clinic has grown considerably with an ever-growing number of associates and employees based across three sites – Harley Street, Eaton Gate and Pont Street near Sloane Square. The Clinic also offers a large provision of online therapy and assessments. The clinic operates from 8am to 10pm Monday to Friday and from 9am-6pm on Saturdays. 

 

Role Description  

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced educational psychologist to work up to 3 days per week leading the development of our educational psychology pathway at The Chelsea Psychology Clinic. You will work within the Child, Young Persons and Family Pathway of the clinic liaising with other members of the multi-disciplinary team including psychologists, psychotherapists, nurses, psychiatrists, and nutritionists to meet the needs of our clients. 


This role will be a combination of standard educational psychology assessments at the clinic and outreach work to establish partnerships with nearby schools and educational stakeholders.  


For educational psychology assessments, you will be expected to conduct 4-6 per month at the clinic site (including school observation when required).  

  • Each assessment includes 6 hours of contact time with the client (4 hrs in person, 2 hrs online) followed by write up of full comprehensive report.  
  • You will have a dedicated and regular office space in Eaton Gate for this purpose.  
  • You will likely work with children who also present with neurodevelopmental conditions and/or mental health difficulties and where appropriate, you will be expected to provide therapeutic advice and refer them suitably to another member of our MDT for support in an ongoing manner. 
  • The primary testing sessions will be booked into your weekly diary by an assistant psychologist after initial triage while you will book the online appointments flexibly to suit your schedule needs within standard assessment timeframe. 

 

For outreach work, you will be expected to use initiative to collaborate with local schools in London and other relevant private education settings to establish relationships and offer consultation to schools regarding children and young people’s mental health, enhancing the schools’ understanding of prevalent psychological issues.  

 

This is an exciting time to join the clinic as the outreach programme is still in the development stages so you will lead this new pathway under advisement from the director of clinical services. In time, you would be expected to recruit and lead a team of educational psychologists, playing a key role in this service development.  

 

Skills and Experience required: 

We are seeking qualified Educational Psychologists to join our team. 

  • Psychology degree (or BPS equivalent); professional qualification in Educational Psychology (doctorate or UK equivalent); and registration with the HCPC as an Educational Psychologist is essential 
  • 2 years post qualification experiencing carrying out educational assessments and/or psychological assessments is essential 
  • Experience in different settings including but not limited to UK schools, independent schools, public sector and private practice is essential 
  • Experience of service development is preferred, but not essential 
  • Knowledge of the UK educational system and significant roles of school staff 
  • Ability to effectively liaise with school staff (SENCO) to achieve best outcomes 
  • Experience in using WISC-V, WIAT-III, WPPSI-IV, or equivalent 
  • Experience with children who have learning difficulties, neurodevelopmental conditions as well as various mental health needs 
  • Experience working with non-verbal children and ability to adapt assessment accordingly 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with the young person’s family as well as the assistant psychologists and administrative team at the clinic 
  • Maintain high standards of practice, record keeping and report writing in accordance with professional codes of practice, the policies and procedures of the Educational Psychology Service
