Wonder Works seeks to appoint a Mechanical Designer to work within the design department in the production of designs and drawings, to a brief from the Directors, Production Managers, Project Managers and clients.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIESThe Mechanical Designer will undertake and coordinate the production of CAD drawings for fabricated assemblies within the live events industry. Our products are used on large scale events including music tours and theatre. More on our projects can be found on our website at https://www.wonder.co.uk.Responsibilities:The Mechanical Designer will have the following responsibilities and accountabilities:Work alongside and consult with the Company Directors and other members of the CAD department to deliver designs, drawings, visuals and models.Ensure that all drawings are provided in accordance with the approved designs, as directed by the Company Directors, Production Managers and Project Managers.Attend site when required to review realisation of designs.Liaise with clients, suppliers and stakeholders in the development of designs and ideas for the successful delivery of projectsProduce and compile drawing packages, presentations and documents as required.Work to deadlines and provide managers and stakeholders with progress reports.Attend meetings and conference calls as required at locations as requested.PERSON SPECIFICATIONBackground in fabrication and mechanical design, and ideally live events, film, TV, theatre, media or similar industry.Extensive relevant design and CAD experience required.Understanding and demonstrable experience of design development process.Thorough understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes including CNC machining and laser / water jet cutting of materials.Minimum four years’ experience using AutoCAD / Inventor / SolidWorks in 3d including parametric modelling / creating solid models to an advanced level.Knowledge of 3d software for modelling and rendering such as Rhinoceros – advantageous.Good knowledge of IT systems.KEY COMPETENCIES AND BEHAVIOURSGood organisational skills and the ability to understand detailed information.Ability to work well alongside clients, creative teams, production teams and suppliers but also able to challenge ideas and opinions in a non-aggressive manner.Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines.Excellent AutoCAD / Inventor / SolidWorks 3d modelling skills.Ability to use Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word)BENEFITSCompany pensionLife insuranceSick pay
