Are you a seasoned Data Engineering professional looking for your next exciting challenge? Our client is seeking a dynamic and innovative Data Engineering Lead to join their team. In this role, you'll lead a team of talented data engineers, driving the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of a cutting-edge data analytics platform. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in a major technology transition, migrating and modernizing analytics technology and data models to support the continued growth of analytics and data science.


What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Lead and Mentor: Guide a team of data engineers, providing hands-on technical guidance throughout the development lifecycle. Foster a collaborative, high-performance team environment to meet the needs of a growing analytics community.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with BI Developers, Data Scientists, product owners, architects, and governance teams to deliver visualisation and analysis products that drive business value in areas such as sales, people, sustainability, higher education, and asset management.
  • Design and Innovate: Create scalable, efficient processes and data architectures that align with business objectives, security, and governance requirements while supporting future scalability.
  • Continuous Improvement: Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the team. Conduct code reviews, identify areas for improvement, and ensure adherence to established standards.
  • Scrum Leadership: Support and lead team scrum processes and ceremonies. Prioritise and refine backlog with key stakeholders and partners.
  • Enforce Standards: Define and enforce coding standards, best practices, and development processes to move towards an automation-first mentality.
  • Document and Guide: Create and maintain comprehensive platform documentation, including data lineage, process guides, and code documentation.
  • Innovate with Analytics: Collaborate with the Analytics team and other technical teams to perform proof of concepts on new technologies. Embrace a fail-fast, learn-faster approach.
  • Stay Current: Keep up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data development.


What We’re Looking for in You:

  • Visionary Leadership: A proactive and visionary individual capable of shaping future direction and effectively communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborative Problem-Solver: Highly collaborative with strong problem-solving skills, able to take initiative and drive projects forward.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong skills in SQL and Python, with a deep understanding of data design principles and database technologies, including traditional data warehousing and big data frameworks.
  • Technological Savvy: Familiarity with technologies such as Airflow, Talend, AWS Lambda, Redshift, S3, and analytics/visualisation platforms like Databricks and Tableau.
  • Experience and Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, with proven experience as a technical lead in data development within an agile methodology.
  • Innovative Mindset: Passionate about technology and excited about the impact of emerging/disruptive technologies.
  • Agility in Learning: Proven learning agility in both technical and business process realms.
  • Leadership and Communication: Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
