You’ll be contributing to projects that have a real, long-term impact on communities, infrastructure performance, and future network strategy.The RoleAs Senior Engineer, you will support the Principal Engineer in the development and delivery of the annual programme of capital maintenance and renewal projects across the trunk road and motorway network. You may be required to deputise when necessary, ensuring all work aligns with Welsh Government requirements and is delivered to the highest standards of time, cost, quality, and safety.Main Duties & ResponsibilitiesSupport the Principal Engineer in managing capital maintenance and renewal projects, including procurement, delivery, and contract administration through approved design and construction frameworks.Assist in the management and engagement of multiple service providers, including verifying task orders, invoices, work programmes, and financial forecasts.Support the implementation of a performance management regime for design and construction service providers.Review processes and procedures to ensure efficient use of financial allocations and delivery of works without undue public or media impact.Work closely with Operations, Network Management teams, service providers, and stakeholders to maintain an integrated annual programme of works in line with network occupancy strategies.Assist Welsh Government with planning and prioritisation of future work programmes.Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety, environmental, and quality management systems.Undertake other duties necessary to support the delivery of objectives.About YouEssential ExperienceExperience working within a multifunctional team to deliver programmes of work in a Civil Engineering environment.Desirable ExperienceExperience delivering highway and associated infrastructure schemes within a highway asset management environment.Skills & AbilitiesEssentialStrong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and manage information effectively.Capable of supporting work programme delivery through service providers with minimal supervision.Strong interpersonal and analytical skills, with the ability to assist in producing detailed reports.DesirableAbility to work confidently and professionally, showing initiative and creativity.Analytical skills to support financial evaluation and submissions.KnowledgeEssentialUnderstanding of project management principles within a Civil Engineering environment.Knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and policies related to asset management, highway maintenance, and infrastructure renewal.Experience administering maintenance or construction projects through modern procurement methods, such as NEC contracts.DesirableFamiliarity with delivering construction projects via framework agreements.Education & TrainingEssentialDegree in Civil Engineering or a construction-related discipline (those working toward qualification will also be considered).DesirableHealth & Safety training.Other RequirementsFull, valid UK driving licence.Ability to work under pressure.Self-motivated, committed, and able to meet demanding deadlines.Why Apply?Deliver high-profile highways and infrastructure projects across South Wales.Work within a collaborative organisation committed to quality, safety, and innovation.Benefit from hybrid working arrangements and excellent professional development opportunities.Play a key role in improving a vital regional transport network.Apply Nowengstaff-in are managing the recruitment process on behalf of our client in South Wales.
