They work diligently to keep the beaches and surrounding areas clean and safe for visitors. During the main summer season, they operate on a shift system, ensuring coverage both in the mornings and evenings. Their primary task is to pick up litter, empty bins, and remove any debris from the beach and coastal paths.Sand Levelling: Due to winds and tides, sand along the coastline shifts continuously. Beach cleaners participate in a sand levelling program that redistributes sand to areas where it’s needed. Heavy equipment transports the sand, ensuring a balanced distribution along the beach. This process occurs annually, starting in the first week of May and lasting approximately three weeks.Sand Cleaning: After sand levelling, beach cleaners mechanically clean the sand daily using a “surf rake.” This equipment, towed behind a tractor, sifts through the sand with steel tines, removing debris and leaving clean sand behind.
