An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Sole In-House Counsel to join a leading global media advisor. This role is integral to the company's ongoing expansion, with a focus on acquiring service businesses globally in key markets such as the UK, US, China and India. This role is based in Central London and requires 2-3 days per week in the office. The business is open to full time or part time candidates (4 days a week).

The In-House Counsel will be responsible for providing timely, outcome-focused and commercially astute legal advice, with a particular emphasis on contracts, company law, intellectual property and procurement. As the company's first legal hire, this role offers the chance to shape the legal function at an exciting time of growth for the business.

Reporting to the Commercial Director, key responsibilities will include:

  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements including customer contracts, vendor agreements, and partnership agreements among others.
  • Providing legal guidance and support to various business departments on day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives.
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable laws (e.g. UK, US, India, China), regulations, and industry standards.
  • Conducting legal research and analysis to stay abreast of relevant legal developments.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop and implement policies and procedures that align with legal requirements and business objectives.
  • Identifying legal risks within the company and advising on appropriate ways to manage and mitigate such risks.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and attributes:

  • UK-qualified lawyer with at least 6+ PQE, with relevant in-house experience (however all candidates will be considered on merit).
  • Ideally a background in media, advertising, marketing or a digital business.
  • Excellent review and legal drafting skills, with demonstrated competency in commercial contracts.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and ability to work as a sole counsel.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to negotiate, provide clear advice, and communicate at all levels of the business.
