Director of Sustainable Development – Mobility & Infrastructure UK (London)

About Our Client:

Our client is a well-established international consultancy with a long history of delivering innovative and sustainable engineering solutions. Their Mobility & Infrastructure team is passionate about driving forward the transition to sustainable mobility and energy. With exciting projects on the horizon, they’re looking for a Director of Sustainable Development to join their team and lead the way in shaping the future of transport planning.

The Role:

We’re on the lookout for a talented and experienced transport planner to lead the Sustainable Development Team. As Director, you’ll have the chance to guide a fantastic group of transport planners as they work on diverse projects with a focus on sustainable transport and placemaking. You’ll be responsible for managing the team, driving business development, delivering projects, and building strong relationships with clients. You’ll also play a key part in shaping the overall growth strategy as part of the Leadership Team.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Leading the Sustainable Development Team, including growing the team and taking charge of recruitment
  • Managing and delivering transport planning projects, with a focus on sustainability and creating places people want to live
  • Working closely with clients to deliver transport solutions that prioritise walking, cycling, and public transport
  • Helping the team apply transport modelling principles to forecast travel patterns and ensure they meet real-world needs
  • Providing expert transport planning advice for planning applications and development proposals
  • Collaborating with design teams to create transport and access strategies for large-scale projects

What We’re Looking For:

We’re after someone who’s not just technically strong but also a great leader. Ideally, you’ll have a background in leading placemaking and transport planning projects, particularly those that focus on sustainability. You should be comfortable managing a team, handling multiple projects, and building relationships with both public and private sector clients. The ideal candidate will also have:

  • Expertise in areas like site assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, and Construction Transport Management Plans
  • Strong project management experience, especially in large mixed-use developments
  • A track record of cultivating relationships with clients and finding new business opportunities
  • A Chartered Engineer or Transport Planning Professional (TPP) qualification (or similar)
  • Experience managing and developing a team

Why You’ll Love Working With Us:

If you’re looking to join a collaborative, flexible, and forward-thinking team, this could be the perfect opportunity. Our client offers a great working environment where you’ll have the freedom to lead exciting projects and contribute to shaping the future of sustainable transport. You’ll also have the chance to influence the direction of the team and be part of their growth strategy. Plus, the role offers competitive pay, a flexible working setup, and a variety of interesting projects to sink your teeth into.

If this sounds like your next step, we’d love to hear from you
