Our client is looking for an experienced Materials Buyer to join their busy manufacturing site in Bootle, Liverpool. This role will be responsible for securing cost-effective raw materials and indirect supplies to meet current and future production needs. You will manage supplier relationships to ensure the best quality, service, and value for the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Source and manage supply chain for raw materials, including supplier qualification, contract negotiation, and issue resolution.
- Procure indirect supplies for the site.
- Build strong supplier relationships, negotiating favourable terms and minimising cost increases.
- Plan and monitor material flow to production, adjusting as necessary.
- Ensure timely delivery of quality materials and provide regular status updates.
- Manage material shortages to avoid production delays.
- Maintain stock levels within targets and reduce obsolete inventory.
- Ensure materials comply with safety and environmental standards.
- Handle routine purchasing tasks, including order entry, expediting, and addressing discrepancies.
- Analyse market trends for strategic buying decisions.
- Collaborate with QA, SHE, and other departments on material specifications and new product introductions.
- Drive cost savings through value analysis and materials management.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in supply chain, purchasing, or contract management.
- Expertise in tender processes and bid management.
- Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Advanced Excel skills
- CIPS qualification (Level 3) or equivalent experience.
In return:
- Salary up to £40,000
- Office based Monday to Friday, 39 hours per week. 1 day from home after probation period.
- 25 days holiday + BH
