Job Title: Bridge Technician / Bridge Operative / Labourer

Location: North Cornwall Coast

Salary Range: Contract day rate plus additional benefits to include fantastic overtime payments, additional large uplift for nightshifts and weekends, daily subsistence allowance and a generous travel allowance.

Reports to: Site Supervisor / Project Manager

Job Purpose:

The Bridge Technician/Operative plays a crucial role in the construction, inspection, maintenance, and repair of bridge structures. You will assist site supervisor, project managers, and construction teams in ensuring the safety, functionality, and longevity of bridges and related infrastructure. The role involves a combination of hands-on work on-site, facilitating and enabling other specialist contractors.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Bridge Construction & Maintenance: Assist in the construction of new bridges, as well as repairs and maintenance of existing structures. Tasks include using construction equipment, supporting access installation, welding, painting, and bolting, and performing physical labour.
  • On-Site Supervision: Assist with site supervision and support construction crews, ensuring work is carried out to plan, within budget, and in line with health and safety standards.


Desired Qualifications & Experience:

  • Educational Background:
  • A vocational qualification in civil or structural engineering or relevant experience in bridge construction or structural projects
  • Experience in Bridge or Structures: Previous experience in bridge construction, or maintenance projects is highly desired.
  • Welding, Plating, Painting or Bolting Experience: Hands-on experience with these techniques is preferred, especially in bridge or steel construction environments.
  • Technical Skills: Able to read and interpret design drawings and schematics.

  • Team Collaboration: Strong ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, including engineers, contractors, and project managers.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Analytical thinking and good judgment to identify issues in bridge structures and provide effective solutions.
  • Physical Fitness: This role involves outdoor, hands-on work and requires the ability to perform tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Health & Safety Awareness: A deep commitment to adhering to safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.

  • Valid Driver’s License: Some travel between job sites may be required.
