The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.CLOSING DATE: 19 September 2025PURPOSE OF THE ROLE BBC Scotlands Engineering team in Inverness delivers critical broadcast engineering support to programme makers across a diverse range of TV radio and online outputsincluding BBC Alba Radio Nan Gaidheal BBC Scotland and a variety of BBC digital platforms.We are looking for an experienced engineer to join the team someone who can quickly adapt and contribute from day one. The working environment can be fast paced but relaxed with a strong focus on delivering high-quality broadcast services.Based in Inverness the site has benefitted from recent investment in broadcast infrastructure including an upgraded Avid Media Central Production Management system a new radio visualisation studio and ongoing improvements to our TV studio and news automation system.While the role involves working closely with colleagues it also includes elements of lone working requiring confidence and the ability to manage tasks independently.There is an element of travel required as the team also maintain sites in Stornoway and Portree.The position operates on a rota basis across a five-day working week (typically 09:0021:00) with occasional shifts outside these hours to meet operational requirements.YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT: 1. Monitor and Support Broadcast Systems Utilise diagnostic tools to monitor identify and resolve technical issues across production and playout systems ensuring seamless service delivery. 2. Manage Incidents in Real-Time Respond promptly to service disruptions accurately log incidents and implement contingency proceduresminimising downtime and safeguarding live output. 3. Collaborate Across Teams Communicate clearly with programme makers technical teams and stakeholders to maintain operational continuity and effective shift handovers. 4. Diagnose and Repair Equipment Troubleshoot faults and carry out repairs on broadcast and IT equipment maintaining system reliability and preventing repeat issues. 5. Promote Safety and Inclusion Uphold health and safety standards while contributing to an inclusive team culture that supports collaboration and wellbeing.YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE ESSENTIAL CRITERIA: 1. Hands-on experience supporting broadcast systems and equipment including Avid MediaCentral VizRT and Broadcast Bionics systems in live and post-production environments. 2. Proven ability to diagnose and resolve broadcast faults under pressure ensuring uninterrupted transmission. 3. Skilled in using monitoring tools (e.g. Nagios) and ITSM platforms (e.g. Helix JIRA) for incident detection and resolution. 4. Capable of producing clear technical documentation and communicating system issues across engineering and editorial teams. 5. Knowledge of safety standards and experience working and contributing to an inclusive environments.DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED: Knowledge of Networking in Audio/Video Environments Familiarity with IP audio/video streaming protocols and networked media systems. Understanding of ITIL Framework Awareness of ITIL principles and service management best practices. Experience in Media or Creative Environments Exposure to broadcast production or post-production workflows. Problem-Solving Methodologies Ability to apply structured approaches to fault diagnosis and resolution.
