Our client, an established challenger bank is currently seeking a dynamic Commercial Banker/ Relationship Director to join their Exeter team and take on a pivotal role in cultivating and nurturing a commercial portfolio within this patch.


In this role, the primary objective is to expand and maintain a portfolio of Commercial Banking relationships, targeting switcher accounts, transactional banking, commercial debt and deposits, while facilitating referrals for the ABL and Asset Finance teams.


Setting itself apart as a genuine relationship bank, our client aims to deliver Commercial Banking services with the same exceptional standards as their renowned Private Banking sector. The role entails providing a sophisticated Commercial Banking service tailored to the unique needs of trading and/or media businesses with a minimum turnover of £1m.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Meet ambitious new business development targets while upholding an unwavering commitment to service excellence.
  • Develop and present compelling business cases, initiating proposals that align financial products with clients' specific needs.
  • Take overall responsibility for risk and regulatory performance as a key member of the banking team, overseeing the client acquisition process.
  • Expand and manage an extensive network of external business relationships and introducers to acquire, develop, and service SME clients.
  • Collaborate proactively with the Director of Commercial Banking to devise a strategic business plan for the designated area, providing support in the development of support staff.


Experience and Skills:


  • Successful background in Commercial Banking with in-depth knowledge of the commercial market.
  • Proven track record in developing new business and growing a portfolio of high-quality commercial clients.
  • Familiarity with fulfilling responsibilities under the FCA’s Senior Manager and Certification Regimes, and Conduct Rules, with the role entailing certification under regulatory rules.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including networking, negotiation, presentation, influencing, and collaboration.
  • Proficient in business development and risk analysis.
