Job Description: Project Support EngineerLocation: Hounslow LondonContract: Initial 6 MonthsHours: Full-time on site (some evening work is required)Rate: Competitive, based on experience (INSIDE IR35)Role OverviewWe are seeking a Project Support Engineer with a strong background in communications and cabling - The role involves supporting the management and delivery of implementation projects focused on the installation of physical infrastructure and active network equipment both internally and externally.This position is embedded within a large-scale, high-security operational environment and requires strict adherence to Health and Safety standards. The successful candidate will work on-site, supporting the implementation, supervision, and quality assurance of project delivery activities.Core Activities:Manage and support on-site implementation works for IT infrastructure projects.Ensure Supervisors and Engineering Teams are fully briefed on the scope, safety, and methodology of the works.Supervise all works diligently to ensure compliance with technical and H&S standards.Assist the SPSE with contractor management, including third-party suppliers and contractors operating onsiteSupport the preparation and review of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).Assist in the permit-raising process and liaise with stakeholders for relevant approvals.Prepare and collate job packs and briefing materials for operational teams.Identify and escalate Health, Safety, and implementation risks in a timely manner.Conduct operational site inspections to ensure compliance with safe working practices.Deliver daily/nightly pre-start briefings for all operatives, including subcontractors.Actively promote a positive health and safety culture on-site.Undertake survey works and compile comprehensive survey reports.Complete detailed shift reports covering pre-works, active works, and post-works via digital reporting tools.Flexibility for day and night working patterns as required.Experience:Proven track record delivering on-site IT infrastructure and data cabling projects in complex operational environments (aviation, rail, or large infrastructure preferred).Demonstrated ability to manage teams and subcontractors on active worksites.Knowledge and experience of data cabling installation, structured cabling, containment systems, and fibre/copper terminations.Solid understanding of safe working practices and regulatory compliance in construction and technology environments.Installation of cabling and physical IT infrastructure systems.Basic knowledge of network infrastructure, including fault finding and test equipment usage.Competent with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Strong documentation and reporting capability.Structured Cabling Systems – Installation, termination, and testing of Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, and Cat7 copper cabling.Fibre Optic Systems – Fibre termination, fusion splicing, patching, and OTDR testing (single-mode and multi-mode).Containment Systems – Installation of trunking, tray, basket, conduit, and cable management systems to design specifications.Testing & Certification – Use of Fluke or equivalent test equipment for certification to BS/EN/ISO standards.Cabling Standards – Working knowledge of relevant standards such as BS EN 50173, BS EN 50174, TIA/EIA 568QualificationsIPAFCity and GuildsSMSTS / SSSTSCSCS / ECS CardFull UK Driving LicenceAdditional InformationThe position requires flexibility to workdays or nights in line with project demands.This is a site-based role requiring a hands-on approach in a high-security, operational airport environment.Applicants should be able to demonstrate practical experience with data cabling and physical network installation in live or critical infrastructure environments.
