Media Manager, high profile press office

London, United Kingdom Huddle Full time

If making front page news is high on your to-do list, this opportunity will guarantee success as a Media Manager in the Press Office at one of the most high profile consumer brands in the UK. It’s a highly reactive role, with specific issues that you’ll own and manage, building in depth knowledge and trusted relationships with leading journalists, industry experts and internal stakeholders. You’ll be leading on front page news stories, meaty issues and film shoots for news and documentary content.

As part of the press office team, your role will help to build trust in the business and mitigate reputational risk by responding to media enquiries, writing statements and Q&As, managing filming requests and briefing spokespeople ahead of interviews.

Joining a large communications team, this is a great opportunity to develop your career and progress. Due to the reactive nature of the work, this role will involve supporting the press office outside of normal working hours as part of an on-call rota.

The job

  • Handling media enquiries (calls and emails) and ensuring accurate, rapid and well-crafted responses.
  • Working collaboratively with Group Communications and wider business to ensure relevant teams and stakeholders are engaged on media opportunities, issues and risks.
  • Managing and communicating on a portfolio of issues.
  • Maintaining effective relationships with key journalists and media outlets as well as other stakeholders and agencies where necessary.
  • Advising and coaching senior colleagues on handling media-related matters.
  • Reviewing filming requests and managing shoots where needed.

About you

  • Experience of working within a press office, dealing with journalists from national, local and trade outlets, with a solid background in reactive communications and issues handling.
  • Alternatively, this could suit an experienced journalist interested in moving into a press office.
  • Experience of working with external stakeholders as well as building strong internal stakeholder networks.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to articulate complex information clearly in verbal and written form.
  • An in-depth knowledge of the media landscape in general and ideally the retail sector specifically.
  • The ability to build relationships with journalists.
  • A can-do, collaborative approach, with the ability to multi-task.
  • Experience of working under pressure and at a fast pace.
  • Ability to identify potential reputational risk.

If this sounds like an interesting opportunity for your next career move, we’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch by sending a copy of your CV to Rachel Steele at Huddle, through the apply link here.
