DescriptionWe are thrilled to have an exciting new leadership opportunity here at Amber, an innovative energy consultancy committed to driving sustainable solutions in a rapidly evolving industry. Amber is a growing company with a big vision and we need someone to be the right-hand person to our CEO.

We're looking for a Chief Operating Officer (COO), who has strong leadership skills and the ability to approach business with a creative point of view. The COO will lead our team of high-performing professionals to be efficient, productive, effective and to go after the market leading position in the UK.

As our COO, you will understand our strengths and limitations within the holistic (and complex) energy management space and be fully capable of making the complex simple. You will look to continually improve our blueprint to take businesses to Net Zero (saving time, money and carbon on their journey whilst building brand loyalty and trust in Amber’s capabilities). As we continue to grow and expand, we are looking for a dynamic and visionary COO to oversee our day-to-day operations, optimise our organisational processes and ensure seamless execution of our projects and services.
Key Responsibilities
  • Analyse the internal workings of Amber and identify areas for process enhancement and improvement.
  • Implement business strategies and plans that align with the short- and long-term objectives developed in tandem with CEO.
  • Oversee operations, People, and technology and partner with CFCO and CGO in orders management, resilience and predictability so that sufficient investment capital can be budgeted for near-term growth targets.
  • Manage capital investments and expenses aggressively to ensure that the company achieves key targets for growth and profitability.
  • Monitor performance and in particular KPIs and take corrective measures in partnership with Directors when necessary and prepare detailed updates and forecasts.
  • Build and maintain trusting relationships with key customers, clients, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Develop the internal culture such that our employees would recommend Amber as a place to work to their friends and family and would recommend and promote our products and services.
  • Enhance customer relationships by utilising data to deepen insights into customer needs, drive targeted improvements, and support their journey to Net Zero.
  • Implement data-driven practices to optimise operations, guiding the organisation toward continuous efficiency and a resilient growth strategy.
  • Work with the CEO to develop the industry scorecard and technology and centre our training and setting of industry standards around this so Amber can be considered best in class by its customer base.
  • Work with our client base and the product working group to make practical improvements to our offering so we can drive at best in class and differentiation to support our growth.

What we’re looking forEssential
  • Experience in executive leadership roles – ideally at COO/CEO role/level or similar.
  • Excellent leadership skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity.
  • Understanding of advanced business planning and regulatory issues (particularly in the energy sector).
  • Solid expertise in digital technology, systems, data, and processes within the energy/TPI sector, with a focus on accelerating innovation, enhancing flexibility, and creating value for companies that embrace technology as a core enabler.
  • Solid grasp of data analysis and performance metrics – can analyse matters and communicate them quickly and clearly to support excellent communication skills.
  • Understanding of B2B and B2C energy markets and products.
  • Ability to diagnose problems quickly and foresee potential issues.
  • Motivational – someone teams want to work for and trust in their feedback and coaching.
  • Consistent – always shows up and extremely reliable.
Desirable
  • Cross business experience in multi-functions.
  • Relevant business growth / acceleration experience.
  • Proven ability to drive growth through digital and cloud innovation, using technology as a catalyst for value creation.

Benefits
  • Private medical care
  • 25 days annual leave, plus bank holidays and birthday day off
  • Death in service and critical illness cover
  • Enhanced primary and secondary caregiver scheme
  • Length of service rewards
Here at Amber, we see diversity and inclusivity as a priority and we are always looking for individuals who bring something different to the team. We are an equal opportunity employer and we welcome applications from all backgrounds.
