The role:we have an exciting opportunity for a Spray Shop Lead (HeavyStructural) to join our team. As a Spray Shop Lead, you will play apivotal role in the day-to-day organising and operation of theSpray Shop, ensuring that all structural components are surfacetreated to the correct specifications, with deadlines met in linewith the require-ments and instructions of the WorkshopSupervisor(s) and/or Workshop Foreman/Manager. This will requirethe ability to work accurately, efficiently and with minimalinstruction.

The Responsibilitiesof the role: the main responsibilities of the rolewill include, but not necessarily be limited to:-

  • To take responsibility for theday-to-day activities and operation of the Spray Shop, ensuringthat all Paint Sprayer(s) are led in the undertaking of their rolesand responsibilities in line with requirements. Namely, but notnecessarily exhaustive of: -
  • To ensure thatmaximum output is being achieved daily.
  • Toensure the highest standards of application are always met, andthat surface treatments are being ap-plied to the correctspecifications, standards, and goodpractices.
  • To ensure economic use of products,ensuring minimum wastage throughout the surface treatmentpro-cesses.
  • To accurately record productuseage, on either a day-to-day or project specific basis, to allowfull traceability of application.
  • To ensurethat adequate and correct stock levels aremaintained.
  • To assist and undertake Sprayapplication(s) as necessary, setting an example of the requiredwork ethic and standards required, to all fellow Paint Sprayer(s).As part of the Spray application duties these will include:-
  • To read and clearly understand all surfacetreatment requirements portrayed either through drawinginformation, itemised list format, and/or through directnotation(s) on components.
  • To undertake andrecord daily atmospheric conditions/dew point readings prior toapplication.
  • To assist with the distribution ofcomponents within the Spray Shop, to maximise output whilstmain-taining adequate segregation allowing satisfactory surfacetreatment applications.
  • To undertake allpre-spray checks of components to ensure that the correct blastprofile had been achieved in consideration of the surface treatmentspecification being applied, and to blow-down all surfaces toremove any deposits prior to application.
  • Toselect the correct surface treatments for application and mix tothe correct ratios, all as necessary and in line with manufacturersrecommendations/guidance.
  • To undertake allstrip coating of components in line with manufacturersrecommendations/guidance and good practices.
  • Toapply the correct surface treatments product/specification tocomponents observing the required wet film thicknesses (WFT) anddry film thicknesses (DFT) and ‘pot life’ of the products beingapplied.
  • To undertake and record all requiredproduct batch numbers, WFT and DFT readings in line with theCompany’s and/or project specific QAprocedures.
  • To assist with the distribution ofcomponents from the Spray Shop, once the surface treatments havesuitably cured, to the loading area ready fordispatch.
  • To clean down machinery and theworking area, all as required, to maintain the integrity,efficiency and longevity of the spray plant, and to always providea clean and tidy working environment.
  • To alwaysbe punctual giving due respect and regard to all other employees ofthe Company.
  • To comply always with theCompany’s policies and procedures.
  • To complyalways with the Health and Safety documentation presented(including COSHH) and to undertake all daily tasks in strictcompliance with Safe Working Procedures (SWPs’) and RiskAssessments (RA’s).
  • To undertake any othertask(s) as reasonably requested by seniormanagement.

What youwill need: the successful candidate will, ideally,have previous experience within the heavy structural steelworkindustry in the role of a Paint Sprayer looking to further theircareer, or as a current Spray Shop Lead, applying the SherwinWilliams Marine and Protective suite of products. Accreditation forthe application of the Firetex (FX) range of products would be adistinct advantage although not essential. Full training would beoffered as necessary. This is a challenging role, so will ideallysuit a confident and ambitious individual who has the ability tolead and be part of a team within a busy Spray Shopenvironment.
