The Role:

  1. Full-time, permanent position
  2. Lead and manage the English department, overseeing curriculum development, teaching and learning, and assessment.
  3. Teach English Language and English Literature across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the possibility of teaching at Key Stage 5 depending on your experience and the school's curriculum.
  4. Mentor and support a team of English teachers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing department.
  5. Contribute to the strategic development of the English department, ensuring it aligns with the school's overall vision and goals.
  6. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning in English, implementing strategies for continuous improvement.
  7. Oversee the department's budget and resources.
  8. Promote English language and literacy throughout the school and encourage student participation in English-related extracurricular activities, such as debating, drama, and creative writing clubs.

The Ideal Candidate:

  1. Possesses a strong academic background in English, with a relevant degree from a reputable university
  2. Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification
  3. Demonstrates a proven track record of successful English teaching and leadership in a secondary school setting
  4. Is an enthusiastic and engaging leader with a genuine passion for English language and literature and a desire to inspire young minds
  5. Has excellent subject knowledge across all key stages, including grammar, literature, and creative writing.
  6. Is committed to fostering a love of learning and promoting literacy and communication skills in all students
  7. Possesses excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
  8. Is a reflective practitioner who is committed to continuous professional development
