THALES are looking to recruit a dynamic & experienced IT Engineer to be responsible for supporting and maintaining our Windows-based IT classroom equipment and infrastructure. This includes overseeing critical systems, ensuring uptime, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring all technology systems run smoothly for both the flight training equipment and administrative operations.

What will you deliver?
  • Systems Administration: Manage, maintain, and optimize Windows-based servers, workstations, and networks.
  • Technical Support: Provide on-site and remote IT support for staff, instructors, and students regarding hardware and software issues.
  • Flight Training Systems Support: Ensure the smooth operation of simulation systems, including troubleshooting and resolving IT-related technical issues that may impact flight training.
  • Network Maintenance: Oversee network configuration and management to ensure reliable connectivity between training systems and classroom setups.
  • Security & Backup: Implement security protocols and backup procedures to ensure data integrity and protect sensitive training information.
  • System Upgrades & Maintenance: Regularly update and patch systems to keep all infrastructure secure and up to date.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Flight Training and Operations teams to understand technical requirements and provide IT solutions that enhance training effectiveness.
  • Documentation: Maintain clear documentation of IT systems, troubleshooting steps, and operational processes.

Who are we looking for?
  • Proven experience as a Windows IT Engineer, Systems Administrator, or in a similar role, ideally within a training, educational, or aviation environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, and Windows 10/11 OS environments.
  • Experience with virtualization platforms such as Hyper-V.
  • Familiarity with networking concepts, including DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, and VLAN configuration.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve complex hardware and software issues.
  • Knowledge of backup systems, disaster recovery, and security best practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and a customer-focused attitude.
  • A keen interest in aviation and flight simulation systems is a plus.
  • UK National able to gain SC clearance.

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience working with flight simulation systems or training software (e.g., Prepar3D, X-Plane).
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) or similar IT certifications.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell) for task automation.

This role will require SC Clearance. It would be advantageous if currently held, however, if not currently held, Thales will help and assist the successful applicant undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance. Please visit the UKSV website for further guidance.

To be eligible for full SC, you generally need to have resided in the UK for the last 5 years. In some circumstances, a minimum of 3 years' residence in the UK over the last 5 years may be accepted, with additional overseas checks.
