Our Opportunity

Thales UWS Under Water Systems are looking to recruit an Assistant Project Manager to join the future of our world leading Submarine Sonar Capability.

You will be responsible for providing assistance to the Senior PM within the Merlin Portfolio, including potentially at bid stage by coordinating specific activities as determined by the specific project. Post bid stage, this role will be required to support the Project Manager SDM , contracts lead and the project team in delivering the overall objectives of the Operational Support programme to the business and customer.

This role will require professional project management capabilities to be applied - giving rigour to change control, commercial awareness and stakeholder management and requires the successful management of the relationship with internal and external customers.

Some of the Key Responsibilities and Tasks:
  • Undertake the activities that will ensure the successful delivery of the project. This will typically include supporting the PM with (but is not limited to) the following key responsibilities:
    • Deliver the key results and performance metrics of the project, including gross margin and cash.
    • Supporting the PM in the creation of key bid artefacts (i.e. delivery schedule, estimate, gate packs etc) to ensure swift contract placement by the customer.
    • Project Governance (the Gate and Stage Processes) over the bid and project delivery activities to ensure project, technical, procurement and support processes are applied and are effective in controlling risks.
    • Ensure all business planning and reporting is published in accordance with Business directives e.g. Project Management reviews (PMR), Business Operations Report (BOR) and On Time Delivery (OTD).
    • Drive Quality, Cost & Delivery performance through close working with other functions.
    • Taking direct management of project risk, opportunities and schedule management working with the PMO.
    • Assisting the PM with internal project kick off, creating first draft of the supporting artefacts required with a view to lead future kick off events.

This role will require SC Clearance. It would be advantageous if currently held; if not currently held it is expected that the post holder will undergo SC Clearance, please visit the UKSV website for further guidance.

About you:-

You will have full business lifecycle knowledge, including capture, qualification and developing capture plans and winning strategies together with Working in a complex, multidisciplinary, multi-site organisation together with:-
  • Knowledge and experience of client and stakeholder management.
  • Understanding of generic processes and techniques used to schedule project activities (for example; Work Breakdown Structure, Organisational Breakdown Structure, milestones, dependencies, Earned Value Management).
  • Experience and understanding of the Project Management process (including Change Control, Risk Management and Information Management).
  • Experience and knowledge of the project life cycle for complex projects through delivery of Development, Implementation, Closure and Support activity.
