Bolton, United Kingdom AXA UK Full time
About the role

At AXA we're transforming the customer “insurance claim” journey by deploying machine learning models so that we get faster and improved decision making at key interaction points. This role is essential to the Advanced Claims Analytics programme that is driving this change. Specifically, this programme is designed to embed a data driven, intelligence led decision making into the culture and way of working in Claims. It will deliver significant indemnity savings, efficiency benefits and improved customer outcomes using machine learning.

As a Data Scientist within the Claims Analytics team, you'll be building end-to-end data science solutions that directly benefit the customers claims journey. This is an exciting time to join as you will leverage our cloud-based data lake, design our advanced machine learning and influence the business in respect to its understanding and use of data.

At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least 40% of your week away from home, either at one of our office locations, visiting clients or attending industry events.

What you'll be doing:

Scope out the business problem and proving value via Exploratory Data Analysis to demonstrate the value of an ML approach.
Create and productionise machine learning models using python, ML libraries, and Databricks.
Process large scale data from our data lakehouse.
Apply MLOps, AutoML, model explainability best practices.
Present the results to stakeholders in an intuitive way and assisting the long-term tracking of the model performance to demonstrate value of the product.

Due to the number of applications we expect to receive for this role, we reserve the right to close this advert earlier than the listed closing date to ensure we're able to effectively manage interest. Therefore, if you're interested in joining us at AXA, please don't hesitate to apply.

About you

What we’re looking for:

Proficient in ensemble and regression modelling techniques.
Knowledge of NLP techniques such as NLI, Q&A answering using LLMs.
Working knowledge of deep learning libraries such as PyTorch or tensorflow.
Demonstratable Python experience including coding in Jupyter Notebooks and also the ability to write productionised code, for example, a Flask API to serve a model.
Ability to demonstrate the regular use of Version Control software e.g. git.
Somebody who can draw out information from data, then by working with operational stakeholders propose how a machine learning model could benefit the process, and finally building the model to realise the benefit.
Experience using PySpark to process large scale data would be advantageous, particularly use within the Databricks platform.
Familiarity with insurance claims data is preferred but not essential.

As a precondition of employment for this role, you must be eligible and authorised to work in the United Kingdom.
