This role open to undergraduate students within the College plays a crucial part in achieving this mission. Our College encompasses various schools each committed to academic excellence and the promotion of a diverse and inclusive community.Role SummaryA summary of the role place within the team etc.This role is open to Undergraduate Students studying in the College of Social Sciences.If you have an active account on Core Systems please apply with your staff email.The application deadline is Thursday 18th 2025.We are looking for current students to join our team to support student experience activity for the College.Ambassadors may be involved in activities including delivering presentations to large audiences leading campus tours generating social media content supporting the organisation and delivery of events and facilitating feedback collection and collation to support analysis and action planning.Successful candidates will be required to attend a training day in September where they will receive a comprehensive overview of the role responsibilities and tasks required as well as EDB training from experienced staff.All Ambassadors are also expected to make themselves available for Welcome Week in September.Main DutiesYou will be managed by a member of the College Student Experience team who will direct your work and priorities. These to include any combination of:Supporting Welcome Week activity which may include:working on the Arrivals Weekend Welcome stall (20-21 September)supporting team building events for new studentsleading campus tourspreparing and delivering presentationsparticipating in student panels (topics include your student experience student life transition support information for all students and other issues that are important to students).Throughout the academic year facilitating co-creation and delivery of peer-led events.With staff oversight;suggesting ideas for impactfulactivitiesidentifying the resources requiredpromoting the eventsupporting on-the-day delivery of activities/eventscapturing event evaluation information from attendeesResponding professionally and knowledgably to ad-hoc queries relating to events and EDB information such as those received at events on social media and at information stalls.Assisting with contributions to student communications such as items for student newsletters and social media content ensuring that content is inclusive and reflects and represents the needs of our diverse student cohortSupporting student feedback activity particularly the promotion of all available feedback routes including national surveys and collating academic feedback captured throughout the yearSupporting with the design and delivery of awareness-raising campaigns on Equality Diversity & Belonging (EDB) initiativesand celebrating key cultural dates in students calendars (such as Lunar New Year Diwali and awareness months)Supporting and working with pre-existing EDB-related activities within your School to support Schools broader strategic objectivesAt the request of School Committees (such as Education or EDB committee) contributing to curriculum development initiatives (such as decolonisation work)Listening to and engaging with feedback and suggestions on EDB-related issues from all students within your respective School including undergraduates and postgraduates in all departmentsSitting on the School Equality Diversity and Belonging Committee for your respective SchoolPerson SpecificationCurrent student studying a College of Social Sciences subject (applications from disciplines outside of the Schools of Education Government Business and Social Policy will not be considered).Enthusiasm for the University the College and your area of study.A good knowledge (or willingness to gain knowledge) of the University campus and its student support services.An understanding of the lived experiences of people from marginalised or minoritised groups anda willingness to listen and learn about others experiences.Ability to come up with creative solutions when solving problems.Ability to act on initiative work independently and to multiple deadlines.A good level of English language is required in both written and verbal communication.Customer service skills including the ability to stay calm friendly and helpful when interacting with people and under pressure.Evidence of showing diplomacy and initiative to deal with a variety of people and situations.A professional approach to work is required as well as being able to represent the University and its brand consistently and appropriately.Reliable punctual organised and conscientious.The ability to take initiative and resolve problems when needed.Confident and comfortable appearing on camera.Social media experience (desirable).For any informal queries please contact Daryl Johnson()View our staff values and behaviourshereValuing excellence sustaining investmentWe value diversity and inclusion at the University of Birmingham and welcome applications from all sections of the community and are open to discussions around all forms of flexible working.The University of Birmingham restricts all students to working up to 20 hours per week during term time.
