My client is seeking a Senior Hydraulics Engineer with experience of high speed, high accuracy hydraulic system design, development, and validation.


This is a contract position, outside IR35, 6 - 12 months and is part time, 2-3 days per week.


  • The project involves designing, developing, and integrating high-speed, high-accuracy hydraulics into a sophisticated product.
  • The size and specialist skills required necessitate a contractor for the team.
  • Lead the development of the hydraulic system from the existing concept layout to a fully operational pre-production demonstrator rig for testing.
  • Manage all project aspects to ensure outputs meet core design criteria.
  • Source and liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to deliver components and subsystems.
  • Undertake all elements of demonstrator rig build, commissioning, testing, and validation.
  • Minimum of 10 (ideally 15) years working in the hydraulics and electronic controls industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in specifying, designing, building, testing, and validating sophisticated hydraulic systems.
  • Experience with high-speed, high-accuracy hydraulic systems.
  • Experience integrating electronics and control systems to control hydraulic valves, cylinders, etc.
  • Highly competent in hands-on skills, fault finding, and snagging new systems.
  • Deep understanding of the broader context of design, including interdependencies between hydraulics and other systems such as structural, electrical, power, etc.
  • Highly motivated self-starter.
  • Disciplined in maintaining focus and delivering on time to specification.
  • Proficiency with hydraulic modelling and simulation software.
  • Expertise in CAD software for system design.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices.
  • Capable of undertaking complex analysis to determine system performance, component sourcing, selection, and testing.
  • Highly practical and not afraid to get hands dirty.
