Finance & Operational Risk Specialist

Your new role at NewDay


As part of the Enterprise Risk Function, the Finance & Operational Risk Specialist for Finance & Operational Risk will work with the Senior Manager and Head of Business Partnering and Assurance to support delivery of an effective and efficient risk function. The Senior Specialist will act as a champion of Enterprise Risk, the NewDay risk management culture and NewDay Manifesto and Values.


You will provide support to the team leaders, and will guide Teams and Functional areas in the day-to-day management of risk management.


This person will be part of a team whose objectives are to provide Risk assurance activity through an effective Partnership model.


You’ll deliver


  • With the support from the team Manager, you will focus on the key risk areas to provide supervision for any business or regulatory developments, and then adapting to changes in these areas when needed, providing assurance activity in light of any differences made.
  • Support the business in defining and enabling good outcomes, and being a strong advocate for the customer
  • Provide challenge of the control environment through assurance activities crafted to test the efficiency of existing risk mitigation strategies, control activities, and delivery of good customer outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively across the Enterprise Risk teams, ensuring effective mechanisms are in place for the sharing and assimilation of insights and findings gained from assurance activities.
  • Be a participant and an advocate of business initiatives, furthering the cause of risk management in NewDay, demonstrating the stronger together ethos and adding to a positive NewDay risk culture.


We need knowledge, experience + expertise in:


  • Enterprise Risk Management, being able to offer oversight and support new business/regulatory developments.
  • Excellent team working, championing the team vision for the progression of risk partnering and assurance activities. You will prioritise your own workload, at the same time as supporting senior partners in mentoring the team as they undertake their own reviews, ensuring they achieve desired outcomes and meet team standards in delivery of the risk management plan.
  • Positive relationship building and risk partnering skills both within and beyond the Risk team. Ability to develop the trust of business collaborators, built upon proven risk management expertise and experience.
  • An ability to understand the strategic agendas/key deliverables of the business areas as well as the broader economic and regulatory environment.
  • Be able to counsel/guide/connect with key partners across the department in a way which maintains an effective relationship.
