Salary: Total package up to £150,000 depending on experience.

Due to the expansion of the service, we are looking to recruit a Consultant Psychiatrist to work in our Medium Secure Service.

This position is suitable for an experienced Consultant or someone due to complete their CCT in 2024 or early 2025.

You will join a medically led organisation which has 8 Psychiatry Directors as part of our Executive Leadership team. This, along with 30 other Consultant Psychiatrists based in Northampton, will give you the support you need to succeed and enjoy your role whilst also having opportunities to progress in the future.

For newly qualified Consultants, we provide mentoring where you will receive the support of an experienced Consultant colleague to help you through the transition to Consultant Psychiatrist.

The Northampton site also has other services such as Low Secure, PICU, Learning Disability, Autism, Neuropsychiatry, Forensics, and CAMHS, as well as our academic and research centre providing opportunities to broaden and develop your skills.

Our patients and your colleagues will expect you to live the St Andrew’s CARE values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence every day.

The Service

Working within our Medium Secure Service, you will be the Responsible Clinician in our specialist medium service. This is a male medium secure ward that will provide care and treatment for working age males with mental illnesses. You will work closely with the other male wards and clinical teams to ensure the pathways between the wards/services are maximised and meet patients’ needs as they progress through treatment and recovery.

The Role

You will lead a multi-disciplinary team and oversee the management of patients with often complex needs. You will promote innovation and improvement of services, with scope to develop your specialist interests and grow your remit and responsibilities.

We are looking for an individual who wants a role where they have the autonomy to make decisions that will help improve patient care and outcomes.

The Ward

We are looking for a consultant forensic psychiatrist to develop a new service on Hawkins Ward. This service will be a new 15 bed male medium secure ward for the assessment and treatment of working age males with mental disorders including mental illness and personality disorder. There will be a full MDT including psychologist, assistant psychologist, occupational therapist, technical instructor, social work input, and a junior doctor.

Development

We are extremely proud to empower the careers of our medical professionals. We support a number of our Consultant Psychiatrists through an Executive MBA programme at prestigious business schools in the country. There are also opportunities to attend our regular internal CPD events and for you to develop a medico-legal out-patient practice as part of the St Andrew's Consultancy Service.

The Person

The successful candidate will lead a full MDT and help shape services further through strategic decision-making and improvement projects while having support from a team of Junior Doctors, administrators, personal assistants, and MDT specialists. You will also be able to undertake research projects as part of St Andrew's commitment to innovation and world-class care.

Applicants must have MRCPsych or equivalent and hold a CCT in Forensic Psychiatry, Old Age Psychiatry or General Adult Psychiatry.
