Were seeking an experienced Workshop Manager to oversee all workshop operations at a busy heavy plant hire depot in Bedford. In this role, youll report directly to the Depot Manager and lead a team of 4 Workshop Fitters and 2 Yard Staff, ensuring the companys fleet of heavy plant equipment is maintained to the highest standards and fully compliant. The position is 50% hands-on engineering and 50% management and planning, offering a great balance of leadership and technical involvement. Key Responsibilities: Lead, manage, and develop the workshop and yard teams.Schedule and oversee planned maintenance, PDIs, LOLER inspections, and repairs on heavy plant equipment.Ensure timely turnaround of machinery to meet customer and hire demands.Maintain accurate stock control, parts ordering and workshop records.Drive a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement across the team.Coordinate with Depot and Operations Managers to maximise fleet availability.Deputise for the Depot Manager when required.What Were Looking For: City & Guilds / NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plant Maintenance (or equivalent).Proven background in heavy plant, construction equipment or similar mechanical industries.Previous experience leading or supervising a team in a workshop environment.Excellent problem-solving and organisational skills.IT-literate and comfortable using workshop systems.Full UK driving licence (max 3 points).Youll Demonstrate: A proactive, resilient and adaptable approach to changing priorities.The ability to coach, mentor and motivate others.Strong analytical thinking and confident decision-making skills.A hands-on, lead by example work ethic.Whats in It for You: Competitive salary of £45,000£50,000 (DOE)25 days holiday plus bank holidaysAdditional day off for your birthdaySupportive team environment with clear career progressionAccess to a comprehensive employee benefits packageJoin a respected and growing heavy plant hire business where your leadership and technical skills will directly shape the success of the depot.
