Job Summary:

Due to business expansion, we are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Ocean Freight Operations person to join our dynamic team at Fast Logistics UK. This individual will be responsible for managing and coordinating the entire ocean freight import process, including transportation arrangements, customs clearance, communication with shipping lines, negotiating rates, and providing quotes to clients.

We are becoming increasingly busy on our export offering and would like the candidate to be involved with this in the longer term, so experience of export would be a huge advantage

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of ocean freight operations, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ocean Freight Import Coordination: Oversee the entire import process for ocean freight shipments, ensuring timely delivery and efficient transportation arrangements.
  • Shipping Line Liaison: Maintain strong relationships with shipping lines to secure vessel space and monitor shipment status.
  • Rate Negotiation: Negotiate freight rates with shipping lines and other service providers to ensure competitive pricing for clients.
  • Client Quotation & Communication: Prepare and send accurate quotes to clients, ensuring they meet requirements and align with budget expectations. Maintain regular communication with clients to provide updates and resolve any issues.
  • Customs Clearance Management: Coordinate with customs brokers and internal teams to ensure smooth customs clearance processes and compliance with international regulations.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Ensure all shipping and customs documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with all relevant regulations.
  • Problem Resolution: Address and resolve operational issues, delays, or discrepancies in the import process quickly and effectively.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously assess and implement improvements to the ocean freight import process to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other internal teams, including sales, customer service, and warehousing, to ensure seamless operations and client satisfaction.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in ocean freight operations or logistics, with a focus on imports (though, we welcome applicants from export backgrounds).
  • Strong knowledge of ocean freight transportation, shipping line operations, and customs clearance processes.
  • Proficient in negotiating rates and managing relationships with shipping lines, freight forwarders, and customs brokers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build strong client relationships.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Problem-solving mindset, with the ability to adapt quickly to changes and challenges.
  • Familiarity with relevant software and systems is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
