Coventry, United Kingdom CryoLogyx Full time
Research Scientist
Permanent, full-time, on-site, £41,479 to £45,782 plus benefits and relocation

Who we are

We’re making cell-based assays ready to use directly from the freezer, to give researchers high-quality, easy-to-use options for cell-based science.

At CryoLogyx, headquartered in the University of Warwick Science Park, our mission is to give researchers the highest quality, easy-to-use experiments for cell-based science. To do this we are using our proprietary cryoprotectant platform, CryoShield, to develop cryopreserved adherent cells in microplates that are ready-to-use directly from the freezer with no cell culture required; frozen cells that are bankable and easy to store, in the exact format needed for research.

We believe this approach will radically improve and accelerate the drug discovery process, making the generation of advanced biotechnologies faster.

CryoLogyx’s highly multidisciplinary team brings together decades of experience in cryopreservation, cell biology and life science to build transformative and exciting products for researchers worldwide.

As a Research Scientist, you will be a leading member of the lab team, working on new product development and creating scaleable processes in producing and manufacturing our products. You will be highly experienced in cell culture and cell-based assays, gained in an industrial or academic cellular biology setting. You will have demonstrable cell culture and assay development experience, and knowledge and experience in cell viability and functional assays, imaging and flow cytometry, amongst other analysis techniques. You will have research project management experience and be comfortable leading and managing projects and working with clients and end users.

Whatever your previous experience includes, you’ll inject passion and energy into everything you do. You’ll enjoy multi-disciplinary work, and you’ll have an endless hunger for knowledge, learning, and growth; all the qualities CryoLogyx celebrates

Your role at CryoLogyx will be varied within the business, with initiative and clear communication being critical to your day-to-day interactions with the team. Being able and willing to pitch in across a whole range of tasks is an important part of working at CryoLogyx. The ability to integrate your work with other team members, along with the ability to share and communicate articulately, will help you to achieve success within this position.

This position is full-time and lab-based, with a starting salary of £41,479 to £45,782 depending on experience.

Job Description

As a Research Scientist, you will:

  • Lead and Manage Projects: Oversee the delivery of projects from inception to completion, ensuring they meet all objectives, budgets, and deadlines. You will also manage and mentor junior scientists and associates, enhancing their professional skills through targeted training and development.
  • Apply our CryoShield cryoprotectant platform to modern cell biology models: Use your experience and skills in cell biology to create advanced cell models in the lab and cryopreserve them in assay-ready formats for our customers and end users.
  • Engage Stakeholders: Actively engage with clients to understand their needs, presenting complex behavioural insights in an accessible and impactful manner. This role involves significant end-user and client interaction, requiring excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Contribute to Business Growth: Identify new business opportunities, prepare compelling proposals, and participate in pitches to secure new contracts. You will also be expected to foster lasting relationships with both current and prospective clients.
  • Research and Development: Stay abreast of the latest developments in cellular biology and contribute to the company knowledge base by sharing research findings, writing thought pieces, participating in professional forums and contributing to the continuous development of CryoShield.

What we are looking for:

  • You’ll have an MSc/PhD with 3+ years of relevant professional experience from either industry or academia, a strong scientific background, and extensive knowledge and practical experience in cell-based assays and cell culture.
  • You’ll have a proactive and reactive approach to ensuring the team can deliver project deliverables to tight deadlines.
  • You will be a subject matter expert on cell-based assays and how they can support drug discovery. You’ll have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with specialists from your own and other fields.
  • You’ll be self-motivated and eager to learn new skills.
  • You will have strong, demonstrable communication and interpersonal skills.

Things you’ll think about:

  1. What can we do with our current processes and technology to make new products for our customers?
  2. What new skills and abilities do I want to learn?
  3. How can you effectively manage lab time, money and resources to make it efficient and productive?
  4. How can you make things more organised/higher quality/better managed/faster/better?
  5. How would you stay updated on industry trends, competitor activities, and customer needs to better serve our clients?

What you’ll receive from us:

Aside from being part of our brilliant, purpose-driven team, you’ll also enjoy:

  • Competitive base salary
  • Relocation bonus
  • Flexible working
  • A generous stock option plan
  • 20 days annual leave, and your birthday off (plus the bank holidays)
  • Self-study budget plus books, courses and events. We encourage personal development in every form
  • A personal physical and mental wellness budget
  • A programme of social events, both company-wide and within your team
  • A commitment to inclusion. We believe that diversity makes for innovative, exceptional teams.

We are an equal-opportunity employer and do not discriminate based on gender, race, colour, religion or belief, national origin, age, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, or any other protected class.

If you are a motivated self-starter with a passion for science and an interest in working for a start-up company, we want to hear from you If you don't feel you don’t meet every single requirement of this role, we still want to hear from you

We encourage you to apply and have a discussion with us about the role or others that we may have at CryoLogyx, either now or in the future.

To apply, please send an email containing your 2-page CV and a short 100-word max statement explaining why you would be a great fit for the job to tom@cryologyx.com. In your email please make sure to include the phrase “Frozen Cells” in the subject line.
