Associate Director of Public Health

Isle of Wight, United Kingdom HAMPSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL Full time

We are seeking to appoint an exceptional Consultant in Public Health to join our team as an Associate Director of Public Health in an exciting role.

Public Health in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight (IOW) is recognised as forward looking and high profile, with a strong reputation for delivery. We are a highly supportive team, as affirmed by the positive feedback in a recent team survey. We take pride in being an excellent training location and are collaborating with local universities and national bodies. The team provides strong system leadership including within the ICS prevention and Inequalities and population health management workstreams as well as in many key partnerships.

The successful Public Health Strategic Partnership between Hampshire and Isle of Wight Councils gives a great opportunity for a Consultant in Public Health who has a proven track record of developing and maintaining positive relationships to take the next career step. You will provide strategic leadership for the IOW as part of a wider team of Consultants working across both authorities. In this role you will be able to develop programmes of work and improve outcomes with partners backed by a strong team of practitioners, specialists and information analysts and effective use of the Ringfenced Grant.

Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are fantastic areas in which to live and work, with beautiful countryside and coast including mainland and island beaches, two National Parks and four designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Within the geography, there are some specific public health challenges including areas with poorer health outcomes, areas of deprivation, and the unique opportunities and challenges of working with an Island community. Working for the team therefore gives experience of working in an upper tier authority, a unitary authority and across different health and care systems and is a step to a future Director post. The large Public Health team, which includes seven consultants, works in a hybrid style with our office accommodation based in the historic and lively city of Winchester and Newport, the county town for the Isle of Wight both of which are highly accessible from the south of England and parts of London.

The postholder will be a member of the Senior Management Team and have additional corporate responsibilities. The post-holder must be on the UK Register for Public Health Specialists/GMC/GDC/UKPHR Specialist Register at the time of the interview and have at least 2 years experience as a Consultant working in or closely with Local Authorities.

To arrange an informal discussion please contact Lisa Williams, Public Health Business Manager, email: lisa.williams@hants.gov.uk to speak with the Director of Public Health, Simon Bryant.

What We Can Offer You:

You will have the satisfaction of knowing that the work you do is making a real difference to the people living in and visiting Hampshire, including some of the most vulnerable children and adults in the county. We offer a flexible working environment as we have invested heavily in technologies to support home working and operate a hybrid working model offering both home and office working.

Hampshire County Council is recognised nationally as one of the highest performing local authorities in the UK. A modern, forward-looking local authority, it offers a pleasant, supportive, and collaborative working environment, flexible working opportunities, an excellent work/life balance, a strong emphasis on training and development, professional challenge and variety and a central and well-connected Head Office location in the heart of the city of Winchester.

To find out more about what we can offer you in return, please see our Benefits Package.
