Role Overview:


As an Associate in the Pensions Disputes and Contentious Trusts team, you will be engaged in a wide range of complex and high-profile cases. The team is part of the broader Employment, Pensions, and Private Wealth department and is composed of experienced partners, senior associates, and other legal professionals. You will handle various types of disputes arising from pension schemes, including:


  • Professional negligence claims
  • Rectification and construction claims
  • Judicial review and public law issues
  • Part 7 and Part 8 claims
  • Contract and investment disputes
  • Scheme funding and RPI/CPI matters


In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop your expertise in alternative dispute resolution and mediation, as well as gain experience in court proceedings. You will be responsible for preparing and drafting clear, concise legal documentation, managing matters with supervision, and delegating tasks to trainees and paralegals. Additionally, you will conduct legal research, contribute to legal articles, and build an internal and external network of contacts. Active participation in business development and profile-raising events is also encouraged.


Ideal candidate:


The ideal candidate will be:

  • An England and Wales qualified lawyer with between zero and two years’ PQE.
  • Possessing a strong technical background in black letter law.
  • Highly accurate, with a keen eye for detail and a focus on precision.
  • Confident in verbal and numerical communication skills.
  • Eager to develop a deep understanding of the law, with a particular interest in contentious work within the pensions sector.
  • Personable, with a positive attitude and a strong team ethic.
  • Prior experience in pensions disputes is desirable but not essential.
