Engineering Degree Apprenticeship
Closing date: 02 December 2024
Quick Overview:
- Starting salary £25,760.
- Five-year degree apprenticeship scheme.
- Specialising in Engineering.
- Working towards a BEng Electromechanical Engineering degree.
- Full-time study in year one.
From fighter jets to food deliveries, from patrol boats to protective clothing, we deliver effective and innovative kit to our front-line forces, swiftly and safely. Our teams make sure every item is properly sourced, stored and maintained, and every contract represents value for money for the taxpayer.
On our Engineering Degree Apprenticeship Scheme you’ll work in a hugely collaborative environment alongside engineers, project managers, customers, and suppliers to ensure that DE&S continues to deliver the very best equipment to the front line.
- Year 1 - Full-time attendance at the training provider to learn core engineering skills and start your BEng Degree in Electromechanical Engineering. This degree is a blend of mechanical and electrical/electronics engineering. While you’ll still complete some pure mechanical modules, our 2025 intake will have a bias towards electronics.
- Years 2 & 3 - Practical and vocational training, continuation of the BEng.
- Years 4 & 5 - For your final two years, whilst working towards the completion of your BEng, you can expect to focus more closely on a particular area of the business, for example, land equipment, aerospace, maritime, weapons, or communication systems.
The placement opportunities:
Electrical - virtually every piece of equipment used by the UK Armed Forces, supported by DE&S, has an electrical or electronic component. You could expect to be involved in all aspects of engineering, from an electrical power distribution system on a warship to an electronic guidance system for a complex weapon.
Mechanical – you could expect to be involved in tasks like analysing the wear of mechanical components in ships engines, reviewing the options for improving the effectiveness of armour on a troop carrier, or maybe supporting the development of the next generation of directed energy weapons.
You’ll support activities like keeping current equipment in service, resolving technical engineering problems, and planning for the future of MoD equipment. You’ll be involved in bringing new projects and services from concept through to in service and ultimately disposal at their end of life.
Entry requirements:
- Five full GCSEs at grades 4-9 (or equivalent) to include English Language, Maths, and a Science.
And
- Three full A Levels at a minimum of grade C to include Maths, a Science plus one other (excluding general studies).
Or, A BTEC National Diploma in Engineering equivalent to a minimum 96 UCAS Points.
Or, A minimum of 96 UCAS points in relevant Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects.
Please complete an online application form and attach one document which contains your CV and a personal statement together. Please follow DE&S’ guidance on how to create a CV for this vacancy and ensure all information is captured within your CV.
