Senior Clinical Psychologist

Sheffield, Sheffield, United Kingdom Paloma Health Full time

About Paloma Health

We aim to provide families with high-quality NHS mental health care within 4 weeks of GP referral.

Our first service, children and young people's autism assessments went live in November 2024, and we are launching children's ADHD assessments and treatment in the summer of 2025.

We were founded as we don't think it is right that families are waiting 2-10 years for NHS children's autism and ADHD assessments, and this crisis has recently been highlighted by the Children's Commissioner for England: https://www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk/blog/childrens-commissioner-warns-of-invisible-crisis-as-delays-and-inequalities-laid-bare-among-children-with-neurodevelopmental-conditions/

Neurodiversity services are our first step in tackling all NHS specialist care waiting lists. We will launch more NHS services soon, including those for adult autism, ADHD and dementia.

How is Paloma different?

  • We are clinically led, and Care Quality Commission (CQC) registered, with a friendly and approachable team
  • We have built our own software platform to:
  • Give our patients a more consumer-like experience of healthcare
  • Free our assessors from admin to focus on patient care
  • Our strong culture, including transparency, a sense of community, and supporting staff career development
  • The experience of our founders (Dr Mark Jenkins & Darshak Shah), who have previously built tech-enabled NHS obesity and ophthalmology services. Combined, their previous companies have treated over 1 million NHS patients in the last 15 years
  • Being backed by leading healthcare investors (Triple Point Ventures and Heal Capital), allowing us to move fast

The Opportunity

We're seeking a dynamic Senior Clinical Psychologist & Training Specialist to work alongside our Clinical Academy Lead to establish and drive our best practice Academy. This Academy will train and upskill clinicians in autism (and soon ADHD) and their assessment in children and young people. It will support all of our clinicians, whether they are new to assessments or highly experienced, and we hope that with time, we can offer this as a formal qualification.

In addition to training, the person taking on this role will support innovation within our autism assessment pathway working with our wider clinical leadership team, and deliver a small number of autism assessments to ensure they stay close to our patients' experience of Paloma.

Responsibilities:

To:

  • Develop and implement high-quality, evidenced-based clinician training programmes for autism assessments, with an initial focus on clinicians new to assessments.
  • Provide individual clinical supervision and shadowing to support the development of core competencies.
  • Collaborate with our Senior Clinicians in our Clinical Governance activities, including developing competency frameworks, rater reliability, audit cycle and Continuing Professional Development initiatives for all of our clinicians.
  • Conduct high-quality autism assessments for children and young people, including developing and maintaining strong relationships with patients and their families, fostering trust and understanding throughout the assessment process.
  • Stay abreast of the latest research and evidence-based practices in autism assessment, diagnosis and treatment.
  • Map, assess and partner with any external training individuals or organisations that are needed, e.g. for ADOS-2
  • Build a partnership with an academic institution or institutions to enhance the robustness of our training and offer formal qualifications with time.

About you

You will be an experienced Clinical Psychologist with training experience You are excited to apply that knowledge in a new organisation that uses pathway innovation and technology to improve family care.

Qualifications and Experience:

Required:

  • HCPC registration as a Clinical Psychologist
  • 5+ years of experience in autism assessment, diagnosis, and treatment approaches
  • Experience in developing and delivering training in Autism Assessments.
  • A passion for education and mentoring, with the ability to motivate and guide staff at all levels of experience.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills, fostering strong relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Commitment to high-quality patient care and adherence to robust ethical and professional standards.

Desirable:

  • Experience in ADHD assessments
  • A belief in and experience in using innovation and technology to enhance care delivery.

Don't meet every requirement? Studies have shown that women and people from ethnic minority groups are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At Paloma Health, we are dedicated to building a diverse and top-performing workplace, so if you're excited about this role but your past experience doesn't align with every qualification, we strongly encourage you to apply. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles
