Aboutthe Team

The Financial ServicesStrategy (FSS) team is a diverse, collaborative and inclusive team.It sits in the centre of the Financial Services Group and isresponsible for ensuring a coordinated approach to the department'soverarching financial services strategy.


We provide acentral hub to develop and drive overarching strategy andco-ordination on a range of sector wide initiatives. This includesleading the group's input into key events in the financial servicesand economic calendar such as Mansion House and Budget. We are alsoresponsible for the group’s governance structures and programmemanagement processes to monitor the delivery of financial servicespriorities.


We haveresponsibility for the Treasury’s regulatory strategy for financialservices. This includes the relationship and key accountabilitymechanisms between HMT and the FS regulators, and cross-cuttingcompensation issues in the financial services sector.


The team works veryclosely with Treasury Ministers and senior leaders. Our work isfast-paced and wide-ranging, setting strategic direction andsupporting the implementation of the government’s objectives acrossthe financial services sector.


Aboutthe Job

In this role, youwill:

·      Leadon the policy development and strategy for specific elements of thefinancial services redress framework. This will involveadvising ministers and senior civil servants on key developmentsand risks across the post holder’s policy areas, including bothwritten and verbalbriefings.

·      Leadthe day-to-day elements of the sponsor relationship with theFinancial Ombudsman Service and the Office of the ComplaintsCommissioner. This includes reviewing annual reports and layingthem in Parliament, briefing seniors for strategic meetings, andsupporting Ministers with Parliamentary Questions andcorrespondence.

·      Developexpertise on the financial services redress framework, includingthe role and operation of the Financial Ombudsman Service and theFinancial Regulators Complaints Commissioner. You will buildin-depth understanding of key policy areas and use this to draftcompelling, clear written advice to Ministers and seniormanagement.

·      Play anactive role in the Financial Services Strategy Team by gettinginvolved in wider corporate work to contribute to making make HMTreasury a great place to work. We’re a flexible team and respondto the needs of Ministers and senior officials, so you should becomfortable in an environment where priorities may change.
