Youll be part of our complex shipbuilding programmes developing designs through concept and early-stage design and supporting the bidding process for major naval projects. Your work will help deliver advanced vessels that underpin national security and global maritime capability.Youll join a national team of over 500 engineers and designers within Babcocks Marine Sector working on projects that matter. This is your opportunity to contribute to innovative design solutions collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and progress your career in a dynamic and supportive environment.Day-to-day youll have the following responsibilities:Determine global and local loads using classification society rules and regulations.Calculate scantlings and hull girder strength for naval vessels.Design and substantiate equipment seatings and foundations to meet military and commercial requirements.Prepare and check specifications technical reports and substantiation calculations.Liaise with design teams production teams classification societies and other stakeholders.This role is full time and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.Essential experience of the Senior Marine Structures Engineer:Proven experience in the marine industry with classification society plan appraisal experience advantageous.Strong understanding of naval architecture principles and structural design.Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.Qualifications for the Senior Marine Structures Engineer:Degree in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering (HND/HNC with extensive experience considered).Membership of a relevant institution (e.g. RINA IMarEst) and either Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.Security ClearanceThe successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions.
