Client-Side Senior

Our client is the leading developer and manager of residential-for-rent homes in the UK. They develop student accommodation, co-living and build-to-rent schemes and are leading the way in regeneration; transforming communities throughout the UK.
Due to business growth, we are looking for an experienced planner to join the team which consists of investment, development and planning professionals.
The team work together to implement Group Strategy – identification and appraisal of development opportunities, seeking to maximise the conversion of those opportunities into development projects.
The role will assist in the management of the Planning team, and wider team, in negotiating and securing planning permission across the Group, to respond to planning queries from the business efficiently, and to undertake any other tasks required necessary to achieve the wider business objectives.
The role would also require the use of specialist town planning experience, skills and knowledge related to the company's core ‘residential for rent’ tenures.
Core Objectives – Specific Expectations of the Role
- Negotiating and securing planning permission across the Group.
- Working towards building the case for planning approval, preparing the associated reports and application documentation, and managing applications through to determination.
- Generating ideas for obtaining planning permission and resolving issues and discussing the benefits and disadvantages of these with the Planning Directors.
- Respond to planning queries from across the Group and liaising with local planning authorities and other organisations as required.
- Be technically astute and demonstrably using your own experience, and continue personal professional development by undertaking regular reading and research of the planning system, case law and other developments in the planning system in accordance with your Professional Development Plan (PDP).
- Independently prepare, review and present draft documents for planning appraisals, due diligence, and internal reporting.
- Liaise directly with other members of the Hub team on planning and administrative matters, including project managing external consultants.
- Attend / support public and stakeholder consultation events required for planning applications, and undertake other external engagement outside of specific projects.
- To support and mentor junior members of IDP preparing for their MRTPI and PDP in general.
- To complete other tasks as required by the Head of Planning & Development, other senior Directors, or the company as a whole.
Person Specification
- Education/ qualification to a degree and diploma/ masters’ level in Town Planning - Essential
- Full member of the RTPI for at least 2 years - Essential
- Evidence of undertaking training, learning or other activities to maintain professional status or keep abreast of developments, trends and best practice in the profession and industry - Essential
- Knowledge of planning rules, procedures, guidance, and legislation – with particular focus on ‘residential for rent’ - Essential
- Understanding of local authorities and statutory bodies in relation to planning (plan making and decision taking) - Essential
- Ability to act assertively to support a point of view, influence decisions whilst maintaining respect and healthy, positive working relationships - Essential
- Ability to prepare information for reports/appraisal and present information in an accurate, logical format - Essential
- Experience of working in the residential sector, and of following its relevant planning processes, rules, guidelines, and best practice - Desirable
