Role: Test and DevOps Manager

Location: Tadworth Surrey – onsite role 4x days per week

We are seeking an experienced Test and DevOps Manager to join our dynamic team to lead the Testing and DevOps operations within the organisation.

This role ensures the successful delivery of high-quality software and embedded products through efficient testing processes and robust DevOps practices.

This role will lead the Test and DevOps team, implement continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, and promote a culture of automation and continuous improvement throughout the organisation.

Principal Accountabilities:

Test Management

• Lead the Test and DevOps team to develop, document and execute comprehensive test strategies and plans, covering functional, regression, performance, and security testing.

• Ensure that automated and manual testing processes are integrated into the CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous testing and rapid feedback

• Oversee the creation and maintenance of automated test scripts and frameworks, reducing manual testing efforts and improving test coverage.

• Collaborate with development teams to establish testing requirements, identify potential risks, and ensure issues are resolved promptly.

• Implement best practices in testing, including the use of cutting-edge tools and techniques to enhance test efficiency and effectiveness.

• Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

• Define, monitor and report on testing progress, quality metrics, and key performance indicators.

DevOps Management

• Lead the DevOps team in designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable, reliable, and secure cloud-based infrastructure

• Manage the automation of deployment pipelines, including build, test, and deployment processes

• Collaborate with development and operations teams to define and implement DevOps strategies, promoting best practices in CI/CD and infrastructure as code (IaC).

• Ensure the availability, performance, and scalability of environments, with a focus on automation and infrastructure optimisation.

• Stay updated with the latest trends in DevOps and cloud technologies, continuously improving processes and tools.

Product Approval and Certification

• Responsible for ensuring products meet necessary standards and certification requirements for global markets

• Co-ordinating internal design teams, external certification bodies and test laboratories to achieve certification

• Ensure all certifications are up-to-date, renewals are managed proactively, and documentation is maintained accurately and securely

• Monitor and interpret relevant regulatory standards and guidelines to ensure products comply with applicable regulations

Team Management

• Hire, train, and mentor team members, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their roles.

• Manage team workloads, allocate resources effectively, and ensure that deadlines are met without compromising quality

• Conduct performance reviews, set objectives, and provide regular feedback to encourage professional growth.

Qualifications/Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

• 7+ years of experience in software testing, DevOps, and/or software development roles, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management position.

• Strong background in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure), containerisation (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI).

• Experience with infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible) and monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana)

• Strong understanding of embedded systems, microcontrollers, and real-time operating systems (RTOS).

• Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.

• Excellent problem-solving skills and a deep understanding of software development and testing practices.

• Strong understanding of DevOps principles, including automation, continuous integration, and continuous deployment.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with stakeholders at all levels.

• Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritise tasks effectively

• Experience of CE, UL, UK and Atex certification processes will be beneficial.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience of industrial protocols e.g. DNP3, Modbus SDI-12
• Technical background in telemetry or equivalent i.e. Teleco, IT Networks o Certification in software testing (e.g., ISTQB).
• Experience in safety-critical or highly regulated industries.
