Job Description

Shape a faster, smarter, safer future.

"Are you ready to take up a vital role in shaping some of our exciting projects? How about joining our talented team, where everyone has a voice, and together we face our clients' problems head-on. It's a diverse and inclusive work environment where world-class talent knows no distinctions.

AtkinsRéalis, Balfour Beatty and Egis Road Operations UK are part of a consortium, creating Connect Plus Services, a unique partnership with a collective strength in highways asset care from finance, through to design, build, maintenance as well as day to day operation.

Work with us as a Highways Project Manager, and you'll play a central role in making vital civil and structural designs a reality. You'll enjoy opportunities across a vast range of projects, from new builds to renewal, maintenance, and assessment works. Your skills and expertise will mean a lot to the business and our clients, such as Highways England, Network Rail, and Transport for London. You'll be trusted to lead your team, knowing we all want you to succeed, and we're ready to help you grow.

Your purpose:
  • To lead and manage renewal and improvement projects across the critical assets of the Dartford Crossing, including the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge and the West and East Tunnels, on behalf of Connect Plus and National Highways.
  • Responsible for delivering projects from inception to close-out, ensuring alignment with client objectives, budget, and program requirements.
  • Project Lifecycle Management: Oversee multiple projects across various stages of the project lifecycle, ensuring successful delivery within scope, budget, and timeline.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with key stakeholders, including internal teams (asset, designers, QS, and planners) and external contractors, to ensure collaborative project delivery.
  • Programme Management: Manage project schedules using P6, identifying and addressing critical path activities with the planning team.
  • Commercial Oversight: Lead commercial management activities, including cost planning, supply chain quotations, invoice reviews, forecasting, and application reviews in collaboration with the commercial team.
  • Resource Coordination: Commission and manage internal and external resources to deliver projects to quality, budget, and program expectations.
  • Governance and Compliance: Adhere to project governance procedures, including preparing and delivering presentations and documentation for gateway approvals.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Provide routine updates on project progress, risks, schedules, and commercial performance to internal stakeholders and clients.
  • Collaboration and Sustainability: Actively participate in the M25 Collaborative Community, contributing to Balanced Scorecards, forums, and workshops. Support the delivery of sustainability initiatives and business objectives.
  • Client Relations: Facilitate collaborative cost reviews and maintain strong working relationships with Connect Plus and National Highways through regular engagement and transparent communication.
  • Cultural Alignment: Uphold and exemplify the Connect Plus values in all project interactions and activities.

What you can bring:
  • Proven project management experience, ideally supported by recognised qualifications such as PRINCE2, APMP, or equivalent.
  • A degree qualification (or equivalent) and/or membership in a relevant professional institution, or a commitment to achieving this.
  • Comprehensive understanding of highways or structural engineering, including associated design processes and principles.
  • Familiarity with the NEC (New Engineering Contract) and other relevant forms of contract.
  • Knowledge of CDM regulations, health & safety, and environmental legislation related to highway engineering.
  • Strong problem-solving, organisational, and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Commitment to a strong safety management culture and continuous professional development (CPD).
  • Flexibility to travel within the M25 network for meetings, onsite work, and occasional night shifts for safety audits.
  • A full, valid driving license.
