As a Data Scientist at Northern Powergrid, you will be at the heart of our Systems Forecasting team, leading the charge in developing cutting-edge data analytics capabilities. You will deliver innovative solutions that adhere to best practices, ensuring that our data handling processes are both ethical and compliant with privacy standards. Your work will directly support our transition to a smarter, more responsive energy network.


What will you do?

Data Analysis and Modeling: Analyse energy systems monitoring data and statistically model network demand, including working with high-frequency time series data.

Tool Development: Utilize and develop tools within our strategic analytic platform, informing the creation and deployment of workflow tools and apps.

Technical Expertise: Provide expert guidance on data analytics development, particularly in integrating multiple disparate data sets to generate meaningful insights.

Project Support: Play a key role in delivering change projects, ensuring robust stakeholder engagement and minimizing risk through clear, effective communication.


What we’re looking for:

•Proven experience as a Data Specialist on complex projects, especially within data analysis and IT service environments.

•Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience in gathering data requirements and facilitating workshops.

•Ability to collaborate effectively with Business Analysts, Architects, Testers, and other business areas.

•Expertise in data analysis tools such as Python/R, MongoDB, and Databricks.

•Sensitivity to working in politically complex environments, with the ability to interact confidently with senior leadership.

•Familiarity with project management methodologies like PMI, PRINCE2, and Agile.

Essential Qualifications:

•Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, with significant IT experience and a strong commitment to solving business problems through data.

•Demonstrated competency in executing big data projects and using "soft skills" effectively in complex environments.


Desirable Qualifications:

•Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, experience in the utility industry, and project management skills.
