Chemist – Decorative Paints

My client is seeking a skilled Paint Chemist with expertise in decorative paints to join their dynamic team in Greater Manchester. The successful candidate will report directly to the Technical Director and will play a critical role in the development and improvement of paint formulations, conducting research, and troubleshooting to enhance product quality and performance.

To be considered for this Chemist position you will have a Chemistry background, preferably with a focus on Polymer Science. You will also understand the coatings industry and applications of this.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning and scale-up of new paint formulations from laboratory trials to full-scale production, ensuring seamless integration into the production facility.
  • Develop innovative paint formulations and prepare samples for testing and evaluation.
  • Assist with daily operations in the R&D Laboratory, maintaining a focus on quality and efficiency.
  • Conduct thorough analysis and evaluation of raw materials, identifying opportunities for improvement and innovation.
  • Research and analyse competitor products to ensure our offerings are at the forefront of the market.
  • Investigate production and formulation issues, provide solutions, and work closely with the Technical Manager to implement corrective actions.
  • Produce detailed research reports and present findings to the Technical Director, contributing valuable insights to drive R&D initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in surface coatings, specifically within the decorative paints sector.
  • A degree in a relevant scientific field (HNC or equivalent considered).
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, particularly within the coatings or related industries.
