About the Department:

DBS was established under the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 on 1 December 2012, operating from two sites, Liverpool and Darlington. We operate on behalf of government delivering Disclosure functions in England, Wales, Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man, and Barring functions for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

We operate in the complex world of safeguarding alongside our multi agency partners. Safeguarding means protecting people�s health, wellbeing and human rights, and enabling them to live free from harm, abuse and neglect.

We provide a service that enables organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors to make better informed, safer recruitment and other decisions. We do this by providing information to enable them to determine whether individuals are unsuitable or unable to undertake certain work, particularly with occupations involving regular contact with vulnerable groups, including children.

Job Purpose:

As an integral part of our innovation team, the Innovation Coordinator, reporting directly to the Head of Innovation, plays a pivotal role in driving our organisation�s innovative initiatives forward. Collaborating closely with the Head of Innovation and Innovation Managers, the role focuses on spearheading Work Stream 1 (outlined in Appendix A). This entails gathering ideas from various departments, crafting and executing low-risk initiatives, and fostering collaboration with Lean and Change Front Door Programme Leads. The incumbent will engage stakeholders across the organisation, meticulously documenting and articulating tasks essential for the successful implementation of each initiative.

Corporate Duties:

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Innovation, the Innovation Coordinator assumes a pivotal role in advancing the innovation agenda across the organisation. Key responsibilities include:

Championing DBS as a leading safeguarding organisation among both internal teams and external stakeholders.Engaging collaboratively with various directorates and stakeholders, guided by the Head of Innovation, to drive forward innovative changes.Providing comprehensive support to the Head of Innovation and Innovation Managers as needed.Gathering and analysing data and insights to empower the Head of Innovation in testing and implementing innovative business solutions aligned with DBS's overarching strategy.Demonstrating flexibility and adaptability by swiftly adjusting priorities and workloads to meet evolving role requirements effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

Capture, meticulously record, and analyse ideas and data, offering insightful recommendations to the team on prioritisation and development strategies.Develop comprehensive Management Information to bolster the strategic direction of both the team and the broader DBS organisation.Enhance innovation capabilities by delving into and comprehending the prerequisites for the successful execution of specific low-risk initiatives.Conduct initial feasibility assessments based on collected information, subsequently reporting on the implementation benefits to the Head of Innovation.Facilitate dynamic Innovation workshops with stakeholders and external entities, fostering an environment conducive to exploring innovative opportunities.Efficiently coordinate initiatives with multiple objectives, diverse resources, and varying stakeholder requirements, ensuring seamless delivery.Forge strong internal networks within DBS to bolster the role's effectiveness and bring novel ideas to the attention of the Innovation team.Provide adept support in evaluating and implementing innovative opportunities as directed by the Head of Innovation, particularly focusing on optimising directorate processes and policies.Offer clear guidance and support to colleagues within the team, broader directorate, and organisation, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.

Proficient in Microsoft tools.

Desirable Criteria

Understands the importance of framework and governance structures, and adeptly communicates how potential solutions would impact these structures.

Capable of defining and articulating success criteria while identifying necessary tasks for completion.

Possesses some financial acumen, enabling understanding of cost versus benefits analysis.

Proven involvement in innovation projects within large organisations.

Success in influencing senior stakeholders to change course when necessary.

Proficiency in core project management skills

Familiarity with financial modelling is a plus
