The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has a Wellbeing Department providing Occupational Health, Fitness and Physiotherapy services to over staff.

Our workforce profile covers a range of staff groups including Operational Firefighters, Control and Support staff, each of them having distinct health and wellbeing requirements to support them in safely carrying out their roles.

The physical and mental health and wellbeing of our staff is a key people priority for the Service and that’s why we are recruiting an experienced Wellbeing Technician to help us deliver the services that support a positive health, fitness, and wellbeing culture within the Service.

We have a bold ambition to transform the SFRS and the Wellbeing team have a key role to play in this by supporting staff throughout their employee experience and helping to make the SFRS a great place to work.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite applications a Physiotherapist on an initial temporary basis for a period of 12 months. This is a full-time opportunity, working 35 hours per week. Whilst the successful candidate will have a base location at one of our Wellbeing Departments (Inverness, Portlethen, Dundee, Newbridge, Hamilton) the physiotherapy service takes a virtual first approach which enables remote working. However, the successful candidates must have the ability to travel across Scotland on occasion to meet business needs when required.

Normal hours of work are 08:45 to 16:45 Mon -Thurs and 08:45 to 15:30 Fri. However, there is a requirement to work flexibly across the week, including evenings when required to meet business need.

This is a full time post however applications from individuals seeking to work on a part time, job share or flexible working basis would be considered.

Overview of the Role

The Physiotherapist is responsible for delivering a holistic Physiotherapy service to SFRS employees focussing on education and prevention of MSK injuries. This will require giving consideration to bio-psychosocial aspects of care and provision of evidence-based treatment and advice.

SFRS's provision of physiotherapy services takes a virtual first approach and therefore it is important that the successful candidate has experience of delivering effective physiotherapy services remotely via telephone or video platforms and the ability to identify when in person assessment and treatment is required to offer safe and effective care.

The Physiotherapist will be required to work within a multidisciplinary team, collaborating closely with Occupation Health and Fitness colleagues and communicating with primary care providers, line management and People Partners.

Essential Criteria:

BSc (Hons) recognised by the CSP

Hold current HCPC and CSP membership

Abide by HCPC and CSP Codes of Professional Conduct, and work in line with all areas of

CSP Core Standards of Practice, as well as our policies and procedural framework.

Effective communication skills and the ability to influence a range of stakeholders

Proven track record of development and implementation of physiotherapy services, delivery of individualised treatment programmes based upon evidence-based practice.

Knowledge of current Health and Safety and other relevant emerging legislation and clinical guidance

Ability to work on own initiative, exercise judgement to inform decision making

Effective communication skills

Effective planning and organisational skills working knowledge of MS Office, spreadsheets, databases and management systems

Experience of problem solving in an analytical manner, identifying sensible and proportionate solutions

Working knowledge of MS Office, spreadsheets, databases and management systems

The post holder has the ability to travel

The post holder is required to attain and maintain PVG Scheme membership in relation to carrying out regulated work with protected adults

Desirable Criteria

Experience of working in a clinical occupational health setting

Experience in return-to-work initiatives and prevention of MSK sickness absence

Experience of gathering and analysing data and information and the preparation of reports

Experience in supporting HW Projects and initiatives

Experience of successfully supporting individuals to implement lifestyle change to improve health and wellbeing

Full UK Driving licence, and the ability to travel across SFRS footprint as required

Salary on appointment will normally be at the lower salary point, with progression subject to regular review - in line with the SFRS performance appraisal arrangements. A higher salary placing will be considered in exceptional circumstances subject to experience demonstrated.

This post is subject to the provision of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exclusions and Exemptions) Scotland Order . The successful candidate will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme and will be required to carry out regulated work with adults and children.
