Working with an established Ports and Marine team with over 100 years of shared experience, we are looking for an engineering apprentice/technician to join the team in delivering a wide range of projects with key clients including local authorities, regulators, defence organisations, private developers and port operators as well as internal clients both in the UK and overseas.

As an Engineering Apprentice/Technician, you will build skills and experience in:

  • Producing 2D/3D design drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD

  • Developing excellent drawing, drafting and checking skills

  • Liaison with designers, project team engineers and technical experts to ensure timely delivery of project outputs.

  • Working alongside our Project Managers and Project Administrator you will assist with implementing our document management system Bentley Projectwise and Document Control duties.

  • Assisting on asset inspection and reporting on existing piers, coastal structures and outfalls (on various sites and in the office)


As you gain experience with 2D drafting there will then be opportunities to learn the main 3D modelling tools we use, such as Autodesk Revit and Autodesk Civil 3D and with these skills you will support the design delivery teams to gain an understanding of the engineering design requirements.
AECOM would be able to support the candidate to obtain formal qualification and help them achieve their potential.

Minimum Requirements

  • Interest in gaining design knowledge through on-the-job experience

  • Strong interest in 3D modelling, 2D drawing extraction and digital technology

  • Eager to learn through on the job experience

  • Strong problem solving and innovation

  • Enthusiastic, self-driven to project task

  • Have a positive mannerism towards team members

  • Thorough written and communication skills

  • Basic proficiency in using CAD

  • Sound skills to use all Microsoft Office packages

Preferred Qualifications

Working to or having recently completed an HNC in Civil Engineering or Computer Design would be beneficial.
