London, United Kingdom Det Norske Veritas Full time
Job Description

Here at DNV, what we do matters. Whether it's helping the Energy Industry transition to a more decarbonised and sustainable future or helping protect life, property and the environment. This is our shared purpose and one our people are proud to be part of.

We are at the forefront of driving the global transition towards green energy, focusing primarily on the installation and operation of offshore structures. Our team delivers sophisticated solutions and engineering assessments to support renewable energy projects, particularly offshore wind farms, while also ensuring the safety of offshore operations for our oil and gas clients. We play a pivotal role in establishing standards and best practices for offshore geotechnical solutions across various industry bodies such as DNV, ISO, SNAME, and numerous Joint Industry Projects (JIPs).

Innovation is at the heart of what we do, as we continuously strive to find creative solutions to the most pressing challenges in our industry. As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to take on responsibility in managing and delivering global projects, all while honing your skills and expanding your geotechnical engineering knowledge within the energy sector.

Our Opportunity:

We are a diverse group of Geotechnical engineers within the Project Assurance section of the Offshore Infrastructure department collaborating with colleagues across multiple disciplines such as structural, mechanical, metocean, naval architects and hydrodynamic engineers. Our projects can be located almost anywhere around the world from Alaska to New Zealand, providing genuine variety to the range of challenges you will encounter.

Whilst our projects are global, these roles are based from our UK offices. From here, you'll work closely with geotechnical colleagues throughout our organization, with opportunities to participate in exchange programs between different DNV offices worldwide. Furthermore, our team is actively expanding and diversifying to deliver a broader range of offshore geotechnical assessments to our clients in the energy sector.

These roles offer a diverse array of responsibilities, providing ample opportunities for growth and development. You'll be challenged, but never without support, as you work alongside experienced engineers who are invested in your success. As you progress, your expertise will play a crucial role in shaping our team's strategies, driving innovation in solutions for our clients, and setting industry standards.

You will be given the opportunity to:
  • Work as technical lead on projects to accomplish the overall delivery of optimum solutions to clients.
  • Specify and scope offshore geotechnical site investigation surveys and soil laboratory testing.
  • Review and interpretation of seabed geophysical, geological, and geotechnical data and create ground models suitable for engineering purposes.
  • Determine soil parameters for designing and installing various offshore structures such as jack-ups, suction foundations, pile foundations, various anchor types and subsea cables.
  • Successfully conduct geotechnical analyses of offshore foundations, adhering to international codes and standards.
  • Identify geotechnical hazards and risks and propose means of mitigation/potential solutions.
  • Perform advanced geotechnical cyclic and seismic analysis of offshore structures using Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Carry out port upgrading works such as quay wall and ground bearing capacities, and seabed modification for jack-up vessels and floaters.
  • Attend sites onshore and offshore to experience the true scale of the structures that we assess.
  • Deliver high-quality technical reports detailing assessment approach and key findings and outcomes.
  • Develop innovative solutions to geotechnical issues as part of ongoing R&D projects.
  • Enhance and develop existing ways of working.
  • Manage your own projects and to work with a high degree of independence, supported by mentors and other senior and principal engineers.
  • Support the preparation of tenders and technical proposals.
  • Develop your commercial and project management skills by gaining direct exposure to clients and involvement throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Develop your technical skills alongside our world-leading experts, on a variety of high-profile global engineering projects, on behalf of the industry's leading organisations.

Responsibilities

We value all our people and the contributions they make to our business, so it's important that our rewards make us all feel valued here. That's why we offer a flexible reward and benefits package, allowing you to choose the things that matter most to you, including;
  • Excellent career development and progression opportunities
  • Non-contractual Profit Share Scheme
  • Lifestyle benefits: 26 days annual leave + bank holidays, opportunity for up to 10 days unpaid leave, sabbatical leave, flexible working options

  • Financial Benefits: including a Pension Scheme with employer pension contributions up to 9%, Life Assurance and Income Protection
  • Travel benefits: Season Ticket Loan, Cycle to Work Scheme, Electric Vehicle Salary Sacrifice Scheme (for personal use)
  • Mentored support towards professional accreditation and annual re-imbursement of relevant Professional Membership Fees and bonus for achievement of professional chartership.
