The job itself

2 part-time Care Assistants required for young disabled man. To provide personal care at home and to access leisure activities in the local community and at home.

Role 1: 12.5 hours per week. Role 2: 5 hours per week. Both roles include one Saturday per month for 4 hours. Additional hours may be available. PLEASE SPECIFY WHICH ROLE YOU ARE APPLYING FOR.

Requirements

Must be sensitive to, and able to positively manage and respond to, the needs of the young man. Must promote privacy and dignity, and maintain confidentiality at all times. The successful applicants will have an understanding nature and be supportive and patient, with the ability to manage situations and vulnerabilities. Candidates should be honest, resourceful and proactive. Excellent communication skills are essential and candidates must be thoughtful and considerate in their communication and actions.

Driver with full clean driving licence and able to drive a large, adapted vehicle.

Experience preferred. May suit a person with either personal or work experience with people who have special needs, communication difficulties or disabilities.

Would be required to refrain from smoking during working hours.

2 references required from current/previous employer or professional person known to you personally.

Job description for both roles

Personal care, hoisting, undressing, showering, dressing, and assisting with evening meal and drinks.

Collecting from day centre and taking out for a light dinner and on to a swimming group for disabled people.

Required to assist with hoisting, changing for the pool, assisting in the pool, and dressing afterwards.

On one Saturday per month to assist with accessing the local community, bowling, cinema, shopping, games and activities at home, and assisting with personal care.

Hours of work

Role 1: Monday and Wednesday 5pm-6.30pm; Tuesday 3pm-6.30pm; Thursday 3pm-9pm; one Saturday per month 2pm-6pm with flexibilty to allow for event timings.

Role 2: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 5pm-6pm; Thursday 7pm-9pm; one Saturday per month 2pm-6pm with flexibility to allow for event timings.
