Job Summary
Our Manchester Streets team, part of the Transportation Business Line, has a full time, Principal Traffic and Highway Engineer vacancy for candidates with experience of leading traffic and municipal engineering schemes.

The team is highly successful and is growing to cater for an increased workload, particularly Active Travel schemes. This role will suit individuals who have a sound technical background and share our enthusiasm and determination to support clients such as Transport for Greater Manchester and the Greater Manchester Councils.

This is a significant opportunity to be involved in strategically important schemes in Manchester, across the UK and beyond. The Streets team provides traffic modelling, all stages of design as well as infrastructure delivery services on a wide range of projects.

Job Responsibilities
  • Safely manage, lead and be accountable for a team of engineers, providing the necessary technical experience and mentoring.
  • Monitor and manage team skills, career progression and ensure alignment with best practice and innovation.
  • Take responsibility and lead on all aspects of scheme delivery, overseeing the preparation of technical content for feasibility, preliminary & detailed design deliverables for infrastructure schemes.
  • Act as project manager and monitor, organise, execute and coordinate a range of technical assignments in line with client project briefs.
  • Prepare detailed fee proposals and contribute to major bids to secure opportunities with new and existing clients.
  • Develop client relationships through project delivery excellence.
  • Support and deputise for senior management of the wider Roads team.
Minimum Requirements
  • A successful track record in the delivery of a portfolio of engineering projects.
  • Understanding/experience of 3D design modelling and BIM software.
  • An ability to demonstrate expertise in some or all of the following areas: cycling and walking, traffic signals, bus priority and BRT, road safety audits/analysis/engineering, traffic signing and wayfinding, traffic regulation orders and parking, traffic modelling software and detailed infrastructure design.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status is desirable.
  • Civil Engineering degree or equivalent.
