Job Description

Pupil Support Officer (Positive Pathways)
Trinity Academy

Salary: £26,- £30, (pro rata for part time and sessional)
Hours: 30 per week, 39 weeks sessional

Trinity Academy is a real community school with a big heart, a wonderful sense of tradition and a keen eye to the future. Our commitment for every single student is to build a culture that aligns with our vision and values, through which we work tirelessly to support every young person to thrive. With school values of Respect, Inclusion and Ambition, we can demonstrate well our commitment to both excellence and equity in our approaches to supporting the children and families that we serve.

The Roles and Responsibilities of the Pupil Support officer in the Positive Pathways Class (PPC) is to provide high quality experiences in partnership with the PPC class team, led by the Curriculum Leader. These pupils access a level of support that is highly differentiated from the universal support that most pupils engage with across our school. All the learners in the Positive Pathways Class have ASD, an intellectual disability or have a learning profile that, due to their neurodiversity, requires significant levels of support in a small class setting.

As directed by the Curriculum leader, you would take on responsibilities for planning and delivering experiences for young people. Work independently and lead the learning experience of small pupil groups of up to 4 pupils - this may be within or beyond the school grounds. Support young people to develop effective communication and regulation strategies as part of the core education offered to them. Take on responsibilities of engaging with both young people and families as part of the child planning process. This includes but is not limited to contributing to professional conversations with colleagues on a regular basis about how best to support them. Support PPC pupils to engage with the wider life of the school where practicable. Work as part of a cohesive team, alongside staff supporting young people associated with the PPC. At times, provide guidance or direction to class Pupil Support Assistants who work with PPC pupils. When required, provide support to pupils out with the PPC

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act . The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we’re bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.

Requirements

To help achieve this, we’re changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.
